Default Squeeky A/C pulley

anyone know of a good way to fix a squeeky A/C pulley? is there a good grease you guys have tried and worked for a PROLONGED period of time? silicon lube or even WD40 works but it just comes back within a day.

do any newer hondas use the same pulley? maybe i can get one less used than my 22 year old crx...

Is it the A/C idler pulley or the compressor clutch pulley?

its definitely the idler pulley. not on the compressor. when i spray with silicone spray right at it it immediately quiets down.

it looks like its the same part for EG's. EK's show a different part number... but i wonder if its compatible....

You're better off replacing it. It more than likely has a bad bearing. I say you get one out of an EG if you can find one. Even if it's smaller you can still adjust it.

I lost mine somehow, when I installed a new one, I noticed that it has a sealed bearing inside the pulley. You might be able to press it out and replace it with a new one.

ok, that might give me some motivation to take a look.

its $35 new from majestic. more than i would like to pay, but then a junkyard piece from an EG is at best 15 years old.

thanks guys.

this turns out to be the best choice. i went to the junkyard to find a replacement and the bearing was pretty nasty. and it looked like im better off just replacing the bearing.

the bearing is a 6203 LU made by NTN. and apparently a VERY common bearing size. 17mm bore, 40mm OD and 12mm width.

i got a replacement locally since i wasnt going to pay more for shipping than the bearing from grainger. $10 for a SKF brand.

replacement is straight forward. seems to be fine now.

btw, there is a small washer inside the bigger disc that sandwiches against the inner bearing race, perhaps you guys missed that when installing the pulley back on, because i can see how the nut would fall right off and the pulley with it eventually if that was missing.

Bumping this for good info.

I started hearing some bearing whine yesterday from the front of the motor and thought it was my PSP going south. I pulled the belt though and found it was the A/C idler. I've got a 1/2 dozen brackets in my basement, but not a single idler pulley attached to any of them, so I'm going to find the bearing.

Found this for $3.66 + free shipping using your part code Tyson: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=263602_304642

Think this will work?

its the right dimensions. itll work.

but i found out its really the belt that was squeaking. i tightened it up and it helped but its still a bit there. the belt is extremely old and cracked, but i'm just going to wait til it snaps to replace it.

im sure a new bearing is overall better, i think i recorded a bit higher mileage... but it wasnt exactly the problem.

Got a bearing at my local parts store so I could compare dimensions. $12.03 out the door and running smooth and quiet now.

Thanks again for the info.

FINALLY replaced the ac belt today. the old one was badly cracked and the squeeking just drove me crazy and quite frankly down right embarrassing to drive.

yup, it was the belt causing the squeeking.

4PK790 is the right part number for my sanden (i think) compressor. i got it on ebay for less than $10.
