Default speedo problem on si-r cluster

okay i finally got my speedo to work on my car this afternoon. dont split vvs to b16 pin it made my speedo jump around. took it off work fine. but i am still throwing code 17 on the cel. i used a 92 civic electronic speed sensor the speedo works but the code keeps coming out. NO VTEC at all what could be my problem. one wire to ground one to power which went to switch power cluster and one that went to vvs plug on the cluster. I have a b16a j1 tranny on a 88 hatch dx. any advice will be apreciated

the ecu isn't getting a speed signal, so it isn't engaging vtec. i ran a wire off of my signal wire from the vss plug to pin B16. I realize that you said that you did this, but double check that it was the signal wire and not the power wire. also, make sure that it is for sure pin b16. then it should work. i had this exact same problem w/ code 17. hth

I also installed my cluster...but i couldnt get the cable vss outta my tranny and ended up busting it. So im getting a new tranny, but in the mean time im going to be running a d16z6 obd1 conversion in my crx with a p28 ecu...but my question is..am i not going to have vtec becuase of the code 17? even on the z6

sorry for jackin ur thread

if you have code 17, your vtec will not engage. a requirement of vtec engagement (besides oil pressure, etc.) is that the vehicle is moving. the ecu has to know that the car is moving above a certain mph too i believe. There possibly are chips out there that disable the vss requirement, but im not sure. Just get a new cable speedo gear, hook up the cable, and then the vss inside your cluster should output the signal to pin b16 on the obd0 side (if you're converting to obd1). hth

what colors were the wires mind u it might be difrent but lets double check ground is black went to the ground on the cluster. wire is black. power was yellow white is power went to power switch cluster. and the vvs went to vvs plug on cluster wire is yellow blue. now i made a y here on to b16 pin this made my speedo jump around and won't stop till i removed it so shoul i switch the yellow white for yellow blue ?
