Screaching Noise, Maybe Speedo Cable?

Screaching Noise, Maybe Speedo Cable?
I have a 90 CRX Si with about 140k miles on it. A couple weeks ago I noticed that there is a rather loud screaching noise from what sounds like the front driver side wheel when I go above 30 mph. My brother-in-law, who is pretty handy with cars (also previous owner to my crx), said that it was the speedo cable making the noise. It does not change if I break hard or turn or do anything other than drive. I have been reading other posts about speedo cable noise and in general it goes along with those, I have seen several though that say the noise is a clicking or bird chirping sound which makes me think this is not my problem. Frankly, I am tired of the sound and am ready to drive my car into a wall. BTW the speedometer does not bounce or jump around either. Somebody please help.
Thanks

On the back of the cluster, just lube up the little ring where the speedo cable goes into the back of the cluster, if you don't fix it, the cable will break. It happened to my friends DA.

Re: Screaching Noise, Maybe Speedo Cable?
Hi,
I have a 1990 Honda Civic LX (5 speed manual). There is a scratching/chirping noise coming out from the front (drivers side dashborad area). It only makes that noise when the car is in motion. I was told that it could be the speedo cable that might need lubrication or replacement. Can someone please provide step by step instruations as to how to get to this cable and also post pictures if possible. It will be a great help if this is something I can figure out to do on my own cause I cannot afford a mechanic right now. Thanks a lot.

Re: Screaching Noise, Maybe Speedo Cable?
If the noise is coming from the front drivers side wheel it may not the the speedo cable because it hooks to the tranny on the passenger side of the car and not drivers side, I would do as stated try to un plug speedo to see if it goes away, tranny side would be eazy to un plug
