ok today i attemted to replace my rear shoes on my 90 civic hb si...

i took off the drum, and put on the new shoes and replaced the springs and clamps, everything is in there right, but the drum wont fit back on, the pads seem too wide but i called the place i got them and they were the right kind

what is the problem? anyone know what i could do?

You need to adjust the shoes closer to each other using the star adjusting wheel.

Maybe you think you did, but I bet it's all the way out. If not, then you're either doing something wrong or they gave you the wrong pads....

the deal is, i got my old pads back on there fine, but i called the place i bought the shoes from and some other places and they all carry the same ones that i got

if you move the shoes around correctly they will go back on
you must had did something wrong
make sure you have te spring on the bottom

i do, i took them apart and out them back together at least 5 times

great.. i was planning on doing my rear brakes next week. sounds like its gonna be a little harder than i thought.
ill let ya know what kinda problems you may have ran into after i finish off mine so i know whats all involved.

why does everyone keep saying pads, they're shoes

sorry if this is blindingly obvious.. but is your ebrake on?

and i think you'll definitely know if the shoes are the right ones or not. i once had a parts store give me the wrong ones, and they just were way too big (i have a std. hatch).

e brake is off, i adjusted the parking break out all the way... im gonna look at it again tommorrow the shoe looks identical to the old ones except the actual contact point is about half an inch longer.. but that shouldnt do anything b/c the rest is the same

and like i said earlier, i can get my old pads on and working fine its just the new ones that seem just a lil bit too thick

also, i cant get the passenger side drum off, it doesnt have any screw holes at all, i tried spray some wd-40 in there to loosen it up and hittin it w/ a mallet, but it wont budge... i bought the car used, so i dont know where this drum came from.

this shouldn't be this hard of a job

I had the same problem getting one of the drums off. The brake shoe had worn down so far it formed a groove in the drum. The shoe wouldnt leave the drum. We had to basically destroy the whole assembly just to get it out and broke the adjuster. Yuck. Other than that brakes are easy.

more than likely your drum is warn so much that the pad has made a groove, just like who ever said in the post before me, I cant go back to look cause I am drunk but whoever posted it, good job. My dog just took a **** on the floor. Anyway. make sure you clean the who brake set up including the drum. And quadruple check the the adjuster, If the parts fit in the assembly correctly than it should fit in the drum. Look at every possible option... Damn that **** stinks...

also make sure the shoes are centered on the backing plate, if they're off to one side a little the drum wo'nt want to go on either.

figured out the problem... the wheel cylinder was cracked and wouldnt allow the pistons to go in all the way, i bought a new one, but the bolts holding it on are stripped, looks like its time to get out the dremmel and buy some new bolts
