pics of my d16a6 buildup and y8 manifold swap
heres some pics now that im done...just waiting for some good weather so i can put the car on the road and see how it performs.
*D16A6 head - ported about 0.020" larger than intake manifold and ported smaller than header(cant remember specs right now), valves were also cleaned up and inspected, milled ~0.010".
*D16Y8 head gasket - CR is about 9.5:1 with mill.
*98 D16Y8 intake manifold - ported to match TB and clean core shift.
*90 B18A 58mm TB
*Airmass header - ported slightly to make each port similar size.
*Delta 260 profile cam - 260 dur/400lift both int.&exh.
*JG cam gear - advanced 2 degrees
here is how i mounted the IAT sensor...yes its ghetto but i didn't want to hack my intake. and it works!
this is my head after being milled.
im just putting this up for reference, so if you have any questions let me know. also...how does it look? good or bad?

Doooooode... somebody stole your battery, y0!!!
Nice looking set-up! That should run very smooth!
Where did you get the head work done?

what did you do for the fuel supply line from the fuel filter to the fuel rail. i am in the process of finishing my Y8 intake manifold swap. do i need to buy the y8 fuel supply line?

Do you have a complete write up on what you need to install the Y8 manifold? Sounds interesting....maybe I'll give it a shot.

i wanted to move the battery or get a real small one, but i dont feel like dickin around with a battery box if i take it to the track. also my intake is smaller than my TB so ill have to do something about that.
i did all the headwork myself except for the mill of course. i just shaped and sized the ports to what i needed and put the right finish on them. i didnt want to go too wild since its supposed to be a mean street combination.

Re: pics of my d16a6 buildup and y8 manifold swap (fastcrxsi90)
parts list: EDITED:
1.) 96-00 d16y8 intake manifold (from manual tranny)
-----99-00 has some air injection crap that needs to be blocked (or so ive heard)
1a.) 96-00 d16y8 fuel rail
1b.) d16a6 obd0 injectors
1c.) fuel line:
-----origional d16a6 line works
------d15b7 line would work
------d15b2 would work
-------im assuming the y8 line would work
2.) 90-91 b18a throttle body 58mm
------has same setup as d16a6 TB - charcoal canister, map on firewall - has extra hole for teg fast idle solenoid that can be plugged(not needed)
3.) 87 d15a3 (Si) throttle cable bracket
------needs to be installed upsidedown and bent slightly
------or y8 bracket upside down.
4.) 88-91 d16a6 throttle body 'disk' - whatever the hell the thing that the throttle cable pulls on is called. make sure you put both springs on the same as they came off...that dashpot will screw with your idle and make it jump up and down.
5.) IAT sensor needs to be moved - no provision in y8 manifold
-----the wires will also need to be lengthened
6.) EACV - if yours didnt come with the y8 one then -
---97 f22b? accord eacv is perfect replacement
---87 accord fuel injected model (engine code???) works if mounted backwards...its mounted on the front of the accord manifold so if you flip it over and dont want to run coolant this is good cause there are lots in junkyard. wires will need to be lengthened slightly (its fits tighter against the firewall...but the wires will clip on.)
7.) y8 intake manifold gasket
8.) b18a TB gasket
9.) might as well portmatch the TB to the intake while its out, and get rid of the nasty core shift as well.
10.) unplug that fast idle thermo solenoid - dont need it and wont throw a code.
11.) pcv valve slides up middle of manifold. i put it there cause its easy to get to.
12.) make sure idle ajustment screw will turn while the TB is out....i had to turn it all the way in.
i think thats it if i remember anything else ill edit it.

Re: pics of my d16a6 buildup and y8 manifold swap (fastcrxsi90)
Sweet, mAd ProPS on the clean engine bay. I'm fixing to do a similar setup as dj_sandoz a little at a time. A 12.5 CR cammed and ported d16a6 with IHE of course. I believe that the runner length on my a6 is "fighting" my cam in it's current state and the shorter runners on the y8 intake will help. I do have a couple of questions though. I've been searching a few sites and I can't get a straight answer. I have found a mani for $100 (is this a good price?) and I need to know so that I can go get it.
What parts from the EX do I need for the swap?
Do I need the fuel rail, lines...?
Thanks in advance for any help.

advancing your cam do anythign besides move your power curve?
i think that the general rule of thumb is for every 0.012" milled the cam timing gets retarded 1 degree.

Re: pics of my d16a6 buildup and y8 manifold swap (Lord Quaalard)
the one thing about the a6 buildup that I haven't gotten answered yet pertains to the high cr that would result from the a1 pistons & the y8 headgasket-since the cr will be 11.25+ will 93 octane be safe or will i need to roll around w/ a box of octane booster? i'm fine w/ it if that's what is needed; just curious of other peoples experiences.........sorry to threadjack

Re: pics of my d16a6 buildup and y8 manifold swap (dj_sandoz)
What gains does just the manifold swap give or mani and teg TB give? Is there a larger TB than can be put on the stock a6 manifold?
Thanks
Thanks

i advanced it because the mill and thinner head gasket retards the cam timing.

does any one have pic by pic setup of every step to do the y8 manifold swap?? also did you get a adjustable fuel pressure regulator?

It makes me embarrased of my engine bay. Back on topic, I pick up my y8 mani at 6:00. I'll put it on after I mow the lawn on Sat. (I am domesticated). I'll post back impressions on Monday.

I'll try to remember to take lots of pics of the install. If I have time I'll post a detailed in a separate thread for future questions. I'll put keywords in the title for easy searches.
