OK im new
im fresh outta EJ1 coupe
Picked up my 91 SI hatch...couple questions tho...
I was under the impression (from the grapevine) that S.I.'s had rear discs regardless......well my ED7 does'nt thats fine cause when you look up a 91 civic 3dr si on Majestic Hondas parts lists it shows drums
I know what a CRX s.i. is and a 3 door hatch but they list a Civic 2 Dr. si and it and the CRX si have rear discs...I got factory shorted again...the 93-95 EX coupes have rear drums i mean lol
so I guess my question is whats the difference
CRX
2dr and 3dr? lol

Re: OK im new (CBEengineering)
Going on a limb
crx 3 dr, the hatch is consider a door, and if you have door poppers, it can be used as one
civic 2 door would be a hatch
Not sure though

AFAIK, only the 90 and 91 CRX Si's had factory rear disc brakes in the US, and all the civics had drums in the rear. As far as braking performance goes, the drums do just as well as the factory discs for roadracers and autocrossers (drums actually weigh less), they're just a pain to service.
edit: possibly one of the EX sedan models had rear discs too, not sure though.

I've heard of Honda generically referring to the CRX as a "Civic 2-Door" before because the "hatch" on it is really a liftgate. The Civic Hatch is the Civic 3-door then. Anyways, you won't really feel any difference with back brakes unless you're doing some serious Auto-x.

Never heard of a USDM 90-91 EX having rear disc brakes.

OK, confirmed, just the CRX 90-91 had them.... and its really not a big advantage if any, except when it comes time to change the pads.
