Icon2 Obd0 codes/whats wrong?

My car is a 91 civic hatch. Its ECU is giving off the following: 4 short flashes, a pause, then 8 short flashes. I'm not entirely sure what this means, whether its trying to tell me 48, or 4 and 8? My CEL is on, and when driving down the road, I notice sometimes my car will sputter, for instance if I'm changing gears too early (4 spd, usually change to 2nd @ 15, 3rd @ 35 or so, 4th at 50) If I try to do this any earlier, my car will sputter really bad, and almost force me to change back down a gear until I hit higher RPMs. Could anyone help me out here? I'm new into the whole honda thing, trying to learn about cars but I don't really have anyone to teach me. Any help would be much appreciated.

Code 4 is the crank sensor and code 8 is the tdc sensor. Both are in the distributor on obd0 and obd1 cars. If you search there are some different ways to troubleshoot the codes. You could need a new distributor, or it could be something as simple as a bad connection in the plug. If you know anyone with the same car, the easiest thing to do is install a known good distributor and see if the problems go away.

all OBD0 D-series ECUs, like PM5, PM6, PM7, PM8, PM9, PG7, have only short flashes, not long and short - just count the number of times it flashes between pauses and that will be your codes - you have 4 and 8

4 and 8 = ignition problem take your distributor cap off and make sure your rotor screw isn't falling out.....this is probably why your car is bogging under throttle at low rpms... could be a bad distributor too
