Default New Distributor?

I am leaking oil From inside my cap. the seal into the head looks good. but if it was bad would it let oil inside the distributor cap. i've had to take that thing off and clean out all the oil just to get it to start. should i replace the seal first to see if helps or is it possible to maybe fix the leak inside the dizzy if its not the seal. or ya think its time for a new one????

Sounds like a bad oil seal ring to me. Since that's a cheap part, I'd try that first.

If your Civic is a 92-95 DX or LX, then a new OEM dizzy housing runs only about $100 at online OEM parts sites. You get three new engine sensors with the new housing, and IMO the new sensors will likely improve fuel mileage. In the alternative, here are some tips on replacing the oil seal (the one whose failure lets oil leak into the dizzy cap): http://honda.lioness.googlepages.com/distributorbearing

check www.bkhondaparts.com for whether the HF is the same as the Si. Honda Civic dizzies are pretty generic when it comes to disassembly. More clues at http://media.honda.co.uk/car/owner/m...H200/16-48.pdf and also the three links at the bottom of the site I linked above. Note how the CRX manual says do not take apart the housing. Yet many do take it apart to replace the oil seal and/or (the also rather notorious for failure) bearing. Depends on how adventurous a person is or how much time they have? If your time is precious, buy an aftermarket dizzy from Distributor King at ebay. Won't last as long as OEM but reviews here of Distributor King's dizzies are generally good.

thanks for all that. I think im gonna go ahead and take the thing apart. there is no red dust inside the cap so my bearing is still good??? are there any other symtoms of a bad bearing??? hopefully all i have to replace is my seal. thanks again for the plethora of knowledge.

If there is no red dust or any other symptoms (apart from the oil leak), then figure you are good to go. Besides, once you replace the oil seal, if the bearing does fail somewhere down the line, taking the dizzy apart will be that much easier. Welcome.
