Need Help B16a Oil Leak
I have a small oil leak coming out of the corner of the head. Is this common for the b16? I've changed VTEC solenoid gasket, Distributor O-ring and it seems to seep after I drive around. I'm gonna assume I need to change the head gasket?

You could replace the head gasket, but unless its leaking bad I wouldn't worry too much. I have heard of some engine builders applying a very small amount of Hondabond to this area when putting the head on.

very common for dohc vtec engines.
replace head gasket, in the mean time, just mind your oil level. although this wont drop it much...

I think evey b series i ever got my hands on leaked there. I wouldnt worry too much about it. When you want or need to replace the headgasket just make sure you add some hondabond in that corner to both sides of the headgasket. Otherwise for the time being, you could wash it very well leave it sit for a few days and try to get some sealer around there. Getto yes, but I have seen it work for quite awhile.

Did you make sure to replace both gaskets on the vtec solenoid? I had a small leak in the same place and it was dripping from the top of the solenoid, nothing major but was noticeable.

Its not your headgasket. I'm telling you that right now. If it was your car would run like crap. You have two seals on the vtec solenoid, and the cam cap, and the distributor o ring. Are all your bolts on the dizzy? It's one of these parts that I have named is your culprit. did you get an aftermarket cam cap?

Re: Need Help B16a Oil Leak
I'm positive that the leak is coming from the head..I changed all the gaskets except for the head. I don't see any leaks in those areas and yes all the Dizzy bolts are intact.

Re: Need Help B16a Oil Leak
Cam cap is the most common oil leak problem on every VTEC b-series on the planet.
Hence the multiple gasket ones, etc.

Re: Need Help B16a Oil Leak
Hi guys,
I am from Europe - Romania.
I have the same engine (b16 gen1) and the same problem. I have changed all the gaskets in that area (distributor, cam seal, vtec, etc.) and the head still leaks in the same place as in the picture above.
two days ago I have changed the head gasket also and I have redone the surface of the cylinder head and the problem is still there. now is not leaking that bad but it still leaks.
I think that the very good way to solve this problem is to redo the surface of the blok also...
thank you.

Re: Need Help B16a Oil Leak
I had a '92 Integra...same engine, very similar prob. If I remember correctly, the leak was mainly from the dist, seal. I really wouldn't call mine a 'leak' because there was no preceivable oil loss, even at 200k. I also seem to remember the valve cover screws needing a little tightening on occasion, but I never bothered using a light ThreadLock.
In short, it should not pose a problem, mechanically.
Best of luck!

Re: Need Help B16a Oil Leak
What kind of Oil are you running? I was running Mobil one in my D series until i noticed that it was leaking oil in the same spot that your B engine is. I switched back to dino juice and no more leaks.

Having the same problem i think. Not savvy with cars. I might need help with the jargons. I attached the photos where my leak is coming from. I just had an engine wash and before that the leak was so thick that dust and dirt mixed with it. Though my car is working fine. Just that i have that leak.

Re: Need Help B16a Oil Leak
Pretty much what everyone has said over the years sums it up. Something you're going to have to get used to. I replaced the distributor o-ring, vtec solenoid gaskets, cam seal, and headgastket. Went away and came back. I'm sure it was coming from the o-ring as when I replaced it, the leak stopped, but slowly came back. I just stopped caring and if it annoyed me too much, cleaned it off with brake cleaner.
