Default msinsky14's saving a crx thread.

well i bought my 88 crx si as my second car after my prelude broke a brake line and i crashed it. so itook the 4500 dollars insurance gave me to start my crx project. I bought it with a b16a, wings west kit, underglows(eeeewwwwww), and si wheels. lowerd on eibachs and tokiko blues.
old prelude

when first bought

within days i had the unerglows removed.
engine shot, messy, but cleeean

rust, with ductape

after one month of having the car, and bought for 3500, steering rack acted up, so i fully rebuilt it with some help from honda-tech and no experience prior. was very easy
suspension

box-o-honda

old si bumper support

new from honda 1991 hf support

brand new from honda 1991 si bumper cover

me trying to figure out part numbers from random bolts and screws.

look what i found under the wings west

front end completed

now this pisses me off, see here how the wings west rear bumper is bent/warped? well underneath is a brand new oem rear bumper support which the wings west bumper was strong enough to bend the flimsy upper part that the bumper mounts to. now i gotta spend another 200 bucks on ANOTHER one, this time it will be an hf support though

Tuesday it goes to the body shop to get quarters and rocker welded in, along with the frame pulled from being rear ended to remove the buckle in pass. side quarter. then my OEM rear bumper goes on. i forgot to take a pick of my brand new side moldings installed.
then I will be doing epoxy primer, filler, and primer-filler, new fenders, sunroof, and paint. updates this weekend
thanks for looking

Yes they do, at least for Civics, but they're not cheap. A friend of mine bought 2 rear quarter panels - basically the whole wheel well and the rear window pillar (whatever it's called)
from Honda.

Check this out:

My friend's build (89 Civic Si). The funny thing is, I bought the car that his JDM pieces came off of... hahaha

yea BIG weight saver, I can feel a difference in acceleration and turn in easily. front bumper from honda cost me 155, and the quarters and rockers are from rustrepair.com. they arent full quarters, but enough to get rid of the rust, but I have to get some sheet metal welded into the weel wells.

no i dont needany parts anymore. im just getting ready for when i get the car back from getting rust welded up.

i have a question for you, after i sand the metal with 80, im gonna lay epoxy primer, then body filler, then urethane primer-sealer. but do i have to sand the epoxy before i lay filler, or should i just lay filler over bare metal, then epoxy primer and paint?

and how many of 500 grit 3m sheets are needed to scuff the paint fully, i bought 3, but im not sure if thats enough

3 should be enough. I did my car with one, wet. The big sheets though, not the small ones.

I also used 400 grit. Shouldnt make a difference.

Also is there no way to save that rear bumper support? Doesnt look that bent, you could probably bash it back to shape on the sidewalk with a fairly big hammer.

well I was pissed when i saw my car at the shop...

the rust repair panels i got are made to replace the old rusted quarters, but the guy just cut out the rust, and sprayed the old panel with an oil sprayer(with other chemicals too).

then he welded the new panel overtop the old panel because he said the lip on the quarter is welded to the inner wheel housing, which it is on new hondas but not old ones. so it looks like *** and the sideskirts and trim dont fit on there properly. this guy sucks *** and im heated. but I guess we'll see how it looks in the end.

its a real business, but he said he was "unable to take the old panels off." he was making up some bullshit saying that the lip under the quarter was welded to the inner wheel housing and its not possible to take it off. its such bull ****, i really want to file a lawsuit because he charged me 600 bucks to do cheap *** work. and he wont give it back.
