More woes on SiR cluster
Check engine line is fixed But noticed something unusual about my fuel gauge. It was at 3 quarter full when I installed it and to be sure if it was working (I forgot how much gas I had originally) I filled up the tank. Great, the needle went up actually too high that it went further than the F mark. No big deal, right? Drove it today all day registered about 150 kms...damn needle didnt budge, still above the F mark. I didnt think the cluster actually made my car run on air... If I connected the wrong wire, why did it even go up when I filled up the tank? Do I have to replace my fuel sensor? Or is this cluster just defective...

Re: More woes on SiR cluster (JdMB16Ahatch)
I'm going to work on the cluster tonight and see whats wrong...retrace my steps. I was looking for a similar cluster for usdm cars and maybe I can swap the speedo...What I did to the canadian cluster I had before getting this set. It was from a Canadian Si that has a tach (8K redline) and speedo reads in kmh but has a mph conversion right next to it/below the numbers. I merely swapped my stock dx speedo that reads mph...Anyway, just wait til I post the pics of my new jdm rear seats and VIS CF hood Nah, just kidding...it wont get here til a few days from now...

Scenereo 1:
you conected a power wire to your fuel guage terminal. Use a multimeter to look for a wire with a funny voltage (like 8 to 10V) with the ignition on. That is probably your fuel level sender wire.
Scenereo 2:
The JDM fuel guage is based off a different sender...swap senders.

Re: More woes on SiR cluster (Autocratic_1st_Gen)
Yeah, thats my next step. I will get a new sender off a 90-93 teg and hopeffully this thing works. Funny thing is last night, I replaced all ground wires to see if that was the problem. Then since the needle is still above F I went ahead and filled the tank again...it only took 3 gallons so maybe it is really indeed full, haha. I'm going drive for at least 300 kms to find out if that needle really moves.

Re: More woes on SiR cluster (crxjdmsir)
I took off the cluster cover and pushed the fuel needle down...then slapped it back on. Darn thing went up above F again...I wonder if there is a difference between Si and DX fuel sender? The cluster is made for a 90-91 SiR and my car is an 88 DX. I'll give it a couple more days, couple hundred kms and see if it moves. Thanks for all your input.

Re: More woes on SiR cluster (EF_LSVtec)
nope the gauge cluster is working, if you wanna test it for sure, unbolt your backseat, and just unplug the fuel level sender plug with your key on, and if the gauge drops to e, then the gauge works completely. Mine also runs a lil past f, but when i'm on e it also runs a lil past e. i think the jdm one has a larger voltage range on the sender itself.

Re: More woes on SiR cluster (chhuong)
Thanks a lot chhuong! I will check that out tonight...I spoke to my brother too that has a similar cluster (for an EG) and he says the fuel gauge is pretty inaccurate...it can stay on F then just jump to 1/4 tank in a couple of days.

Re: More woes on SiR cluster (EF_LSVtec)
my cluster also reads full for a really long time..i usually drive it to about 150 km before it even drops a little. once it starts dropping it goes much faster..that's just how it is. i would say to drive the car at least 300 km and it should have dropped to about half full. i usually can get 450-500 km a tank easy.
what was the fix for the VSS problem?

Re: More woes on SiR cluster (ian)
Slightly off topic but.........
I thought I read somewhere that you cannot do this on 90-91 because of the cluster housing being a different design. Is this true....Cuz I want to do this aswell, the stock one looks like ***.

Re: More woes on SiR cluster (ian)
Thanks Ian...I took my car to the shop yesterday to get some of the oversprays cleaned up and a few runoffs here and there. I'm picking it up tonight and put the rear seats and the hood when I get home. I'll take the pics if its not too dark out and post...

Re: More woes on SiR cluster (cl4show)
my friend put a SiR cluster in his car and i think you made the same mistake that my friend did and hooked your gas gauge to constant power.
double check your wiring
