Long Trip with 91 Si - Any Concern?
The finance and are thinking about driving from Sacramento to Minnesapolis for the week of the 4th of July. It's about 3,800 miles round trip. I'm thinking about taking my 91 Si. The car is all stock, 150k on it, recently had timing belt, water pump, and radiator replaced. Previous owner swapped the 5sp out for a 4sp tranny. I'm guessing crusing at 85mph would be about 4k rpm and I'd love to be able to open it up to 95 or so in the long empty stretches of this country lol.
Should I have any reason to think the car can't handle a trip like this? Any maintainence suggest other than a standard tune up, new fluids, etc?

You should be fine if you've kept up with standard maintenance. However, I would check the battery/alternator/distributor especially if the later two are original. Probably not a concern but only mention as both of those went out on my CRX around that mileage mark. I was close to home so wasn't a huge issue.

Rent a car with unlimited miles? It's usually under $30 per day, you drive a comfy car and will save mileage on your Si.
I have done it many times before on interstate trips and it's very convenient and cheap without the hassle.

Ya could use that $30 for a full tank of gas.
Does your CRX have CC?
I know my old 89 EF Si didn't, and I would cross my feet alot.
12hr drive MI to St.Paul.
Either way, have fun on your trip.
P.S. watch out for thieves. Gone in 30sec.

I do 400 to 600 mile trips in my 1988 civic and I haven't had issues. I'd take it on a long trip without thinking twice about it. So long as the car works fine in town, it should work fine on the highway.
I'd also make sure you have a working spare and everything to change it out. Sometimes the spare isn't checked and is low on air when needed.

I keep up on all regular maintenance on my 89 si. Before long road trips I change the oil, check coolant level, check tire pressure, maybe even rotate tires. That's about it. I usually pack a small toolbox just in case.
It handles the 17hr trip from the middle of Oregon to San Diego just fine, straight through.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. If I decide against it I think the only reason at this point would be the noise. Wind whipping through the window and windshield moldings and relatively loud engine at 80+ for 25 hours is going to have the wife unhappy with me.

That's why you just turn the music up louder.
if you're really worried...tow another working Civic and scavenge if for parts if you have a problem

I just got done with a 600 mile trip in my 1988 EF hatchback. It is all original and the interior is all there, so it is quieter than my recent EF's, but I have to say that with the more current speed limits being 70-80MPH in Texas, I should have taken my M45S. My '88 is well maintained but has 199K on the clock and after a sustained jaunt of 80MPH, I would start to get an unnerving odor from the engine compartment. I think the poor old hatch will be relegated to the short trips to work.
Oh yeah, I'm 45 years old and my back hurt for days after I got home.

Alright thanks all!
New alternator is going in, along with A/C from a donor car.
I'm going to acquire a full size spare and should be feeling pretty good.
Thanks everyone for the replies!
