The cat doesn't really quiet the tone down as much as the muffler. I would try no cat, 1 resonator and 1 muffler and go from their. Keep in mind 1.8l and less you don't need piping bigger than ~2.25".

alright that sounds like a good plan. i already have a 2.5'' exhaust on the car so why switch it now, works fine. but will a 2.25'' resonator beable to be welded on 2.5'' piping? dont wanna buy the wrong stuff, wanna get it right the first time.
thanks

IIRC, you can just get adaptors to go from 2.5" to 2.25"... shouldn't be a problem. It'll probably just run you an extra ~$5.

What does "IIRC" stand for? also, if i were you, i would just buy the resonator as a 2.5 in/out let so there isn't a bottle neck in the system.

Sorry, I pick up bits and pieces of "forum-speak" from all over the place... IIRC is If I Remember Correctly... as far as I know, at least. But, as for the resonator, that does make more sense. If you're going to buy a new resonator anyways, and are going for a quality one, do it right and get one that matches your exhaust diameter. I've gotta go outside and check mine... I don't actually know the size.

glasspacks are just fine. I've ran them for years without "melting". My current one has been on there for 9 months, and it is still the same sound as new. They will quiet the sound alot if you use them in addition to a loud muffler. mine is 2.5 inch core 30 inches long, only cost $35 installed. It is installed with the nostrils open to the front which quiets it down a lot.

you can get a little taste of what my setup sounds like here: EDiT: my setup = b20b->header->no cat ->2.25 pipe -> glasspack -> dynomax turbo muffler. 80% of the sound you hear is from the shorty intake

I totally forgot I had sounds of mine too online, this is with a summit glasspack, flowmaster deltaflow muffler (the quiet one), 2.25" piping all the way around.

I have the "nostrils" of the glass pack facing towards the muffler. I may have to try flipping it and seeing if it changes tone.

i installed a magnaflow on my 89 civic with 2.5 inch piping and a high flow cat. Its buzzy when i get on it yet it seems to deminish as the car heats up. Would a res get rid of this or does the cat need to be broken in?

I changed from a resonator to the glasspack setup I posted about already, and 95% of the buzzing sound went away.

ok cool, have you guys heard about the resonated tips? A buddy of mine has a Magnaflow resonated tip and he said it helped a little bit. I dont understand how it would help when the tip is so damn small.
