Hesitation

Re: Hesitation (4gvtec)
yep yep. same prob here. i was told that it might be the timing for the distributor. im gonna give that a try and also check the o2 sensors....

Terminal C16 (white) primary O2 (sensor closes to the battery, cyl 1 & 4)
Terminal C8 (yellow) secondary O2 (sensor closes to the dampner plulley, cyl 2 & 3)
Test and check

Re: Hesitation (turtleb16a)
NGK would be the best - they make the OEM o2 sensors for Honda. Bosch is a good name as well, though, so I don't imagine it's the end of the world to go with a Bosch...

Re: Hesitation (90CivicEX)
ok, checked my o2s to see if they were switched..if the primary is the one near the battery and the secondary near the ac compressor, i had em right the whole time, and it's NOT the cause of my hesitation. anymore ideas???

Re: Hesitation (SuperCivic)
Hey, I had this same issue, i couldn't figure it out, I messed with the O2's and the TPS sensor location and the timing then when we fired it up after resetting the ecu it worked perfect. This guy on hey Stinkalope figured it out on his and it was being a really bitch, ask him. he did a real good job on his.

Re: Hesitation (91sifreak)
Not saying we have the same problem, but my car has B16A from the factory (JDM EG6) and it suffers mild hesitation at low revs. I've also recently noticed the clutch pedal feel has changed. It's definitely not the location of the sensors for me, but could be wear of maybe the ignition system (maybe cables or ignition coil or something)
I've heard the problem could be a problematic clutch. This kinda makes sense; if the clutch is failing then it will not have a complete bite under acceleration, leading to jerky hesitation. It's very mild in my car, but who knows; could be something?

Re: Hesitation (SuperCivic)
I'm a dumbass
What I previously wrote about the location of the primary and secondary O2 sensors is wrong. I had them listed backwards. So for the record........
Primary O2 sensor is closes to the front dampner pulley
Secondary O2 sensor is closes to the battery
SuperCivic your connections are backwards, swapping them around will solve your hesistation problem. Your next concern (depending on where you live, and if you have one) is your catylitic converter. Might be burntout due to the car running too rich from the backwards O2 connnection.

Re: Hesitation (turtleb16a)
Did you guys ever try using a dvom (digital volt/ohm meter) IE: fluke 88 etc. to monitor O2 sensor values ? try reding the service manual. There should be a min./max. of 5 volts and more voltage being rich.

Re: Hesitation (MrDoHc2)
you've got to be f-n kidding me. i completely rebuilt the motor and it's been smoking like crazy..it's worse on hot days and when i tach it up..could this all be from this backward o2 thing??? i do have black all over my exhaust pipe. holy smokes, thanks so much mrdohc2!
addendum: I switched the o2 wires this evening (major task for me ) so we'll see what happens. i'll report back after i drive the car a little.

Re: Hesitation (4bidden)
OK, I have the exact same problems. I get a lillte hesitation, I have a loud exhaust, and you can hear it very well. It will kinda be like brrrrrrr (even out note) when I am at a steady throttle, and it will kinda jerk when you give it more gas. It only hapens when its warm, just like stated above. I checked, and my 02 sensors are backwards. Can anyone verify that they are backwards? I have the c8 location near the crank pulley, and the original wire harness plug at the battery side. Did anyone figure this out? Ryan
PS, could this cause me to fail my smog check? Cause I was rich at 2.5K rpm

Re: Hesitation (droppedcrxsi)
I've read and re-read this subject again and again. I, too, was experiencing all of the same situations described. I checked and double-checked and as a last resort tried switching my 02 sensor wiring to the ECU (even though they were wired up correctly as instructed) well what do you know............it runs great now that I switched 'em. Just do it. Do it at the ECU (it's easier). And then try it. It worked for me.
Need more details? Just ask.

Re: Hesitation (Mr. B in Az)
well, damn, i've been having this same problem. I'm glad somebody addressed it. CAuse i was about to buy a new coil. I'm gonna go switch them on my car. Crap tho i hate cutting wires to make them all ugly looking. oh well, it's for the better.

Re: Hesitation (PhatHardy)
i'm having the same problems in my 88 hatch w/ a stock b16. I don't think that it's the o2 sensor because i only have one sensor because i'm running a ls exhaust manifold and a zdyne pm6 ecu. It's only noticable when car is warmed up and when it's below about 3k rpm's. I'm stuck on the idea that it's timing because the more i advance it the better it gets low end but then it's not to strong top end. It's been like this for about 3 weeks now since i got it running and it's getting annoying, it's fine when racing because i never drop below about 5krpms but when driving around town it sucks. any input other than O2 sensors???
