Headers worth it???
I always thought headers were worth buying. I'm getting N2 newspeed headers with my new engine and they say it will give me about 10-12 ponies. If you go on the DC sports web site for example, they have dyno tests of their products. Their headers only showed a max hp increase of 2 hp roughly... I've heard in some magasines that some even reduce the number of hp. Why do people keep on saying it is great and it will give you a lot of power then? 2-3 hp is definitively not worth 300$us....There has to be something I don't understand....

No header in the world will give you 10-20 HP. Most headers will give anywhere from 2-5. The 5 being used with other mods. Dont always listen to advertised hype. Go with what people have had experience with. The DC headers are nice headers for the money..I'd rather spend 250-300 on a DC then say 225 on a Pacesetter or airmass.

Re: Headers worth it??? (evo)
4-1 gives more power, but in the high end. 4-2-1 is supposed to give more mid range, but ultimately not as much power as 4-1.
So if you have a high revving engine like a b16, may I suggest a 4-1. If you want midrange, well, don't get a b16....

Re: Headers worth it??? (CRX_VTEC)
actually i think DC has a ALL RACE ALL TITANIUM header that just drops the exhaust gases under the car and it utilizes no cat...its been dynoed on Compact CAR on a B18C1...i think it gained like 14 hp...buth then again the header was like a thousand bucks and definitly isnt for the street

you would probably get that same amount of power with a stock header uncapped i have a lightspeed 4-2-1 its alright i havent dynoed my car so i cant tell you what kind of numbers it puts out i was first gonna go with a dc 4-1 but my engine was already in and it wouldn't have fit unless i pulled the crossmember or engine.

A header is definitely worth it. But you have to remember that it works better with more mods. It's all about letting the engine breath more freely. Also getting a good intake and exhaust will make a big difference, because it will make the header work better.

DAMN!!! $457.50 for that JG edelbrock header!! That's alot of money. I'd rather go with
something like the apex header if I was gonna spend that much.

yeah they do cost a little over $475. but they do make 10-12 more HP over the DC4-1 headers. please give me a call at my office and i'll give you a better price than $475.

Has anyone tried the OBX headers? They are at a real good price and I might be going the turbo route
within a year so I dont wanna go spending a whole lot on header.

Re: Headers worth it??? (Prodigy 2.2 EK)
I have a question about the JG headers. You said that they make 10hp over the DC 4-1 header. But the description on your website says:
"Designed for JDM & US engines. This header produces 6hp to the wheels over stock exhaust manifolds. 3/8" laser cut & CNC-machined flanges for a precise fit. Two-piece header design with a 1 3/4" diamter A-section and a 2" b-section with optional 3".
Which says that the JG header makes 6hp to the wheels over the stock manifold. That would mean that the DC 4-1 header makes -4hp over stock. I can't see how you get 10 hp over a DC4-1 when th JG header doesn't make 10hp over stock???

From http://www.hytechexhaust.com
"HyTech's full exhaust system for the Type R produces 20 HP and 22 lbs of torque, with the aid of tuning devices like cam gears and an Apexi VAFC. This Type R design comes form the CART Toyota Atlantic series, where HyTech is on virtually all of the competitors cars. The system is full stainless steel and comes with 2 1/2 cat and our own double bypass stainless muffler for the quietest ride and the least restrictive on the market. "
personally i would either go with an SMS or ITR 4-1 header.

Re: Headers worth it??? (sleeper4dr)
When the time comes, I plan on fabricating my own headers for my project CRX.
I'll use Hytech collectors, . But other than that, it will be mostly my own work. My CRX is both for drag and autocrossing, but for autocrossing, it has to be muffled. Plus, it's going to be entirely street legal, so it needs a cat. But for drag racing, I obviously want to be able to remove the muffler and cat. So It's going to be convertable from a side exiting exhaust (exit in front of front passenger tire), to a catalytic converted, muffled, side exiting exhsaust (under the passenger door/in front of passenger rear tire). If everything goes well, maybe I'll start selling them.
