Re: Friendly D16a6 VS ZC debate (bigrob119)
i have a sohc zc in my 89 crx si. i love the motor. sure, it's not too fast, but it's quick enough so that i enjoy zipping around corners at nighttime. i've never run at a track, so i have no quarter mile times to post. my friend's d16a6 crx si consistantly pulled 16.1's with i/h/e. i just have an injen short ram for now...what kind of times would i pull you think?
i was talking to a friend who has a 92 integra gs, and he said he pulled 15.6 with his car (new tranny and clutch, that's it). i've raced this friend before, and keep up with him...so i'm confused as to really how fast my car is (relating to other cars).
anybody got some insight for me? was my friend full of BS you think with that 15.6 quarter time?

Re: Friendly D16a6 VS ZC debate (y-49CRX)
all depends..honestly any 90-93 ls/gs is no sweat for me if it only has i/h/e..i only have a d16a6 in crx with i/h/e..i can usualy take out a 2000 Si by a bumper unless its has some..I think a crx 89 or 88 with i/h/e and tuned with a good driver is capable of mid 15's or high 15's fore same with sohc zc..theres ur answer

[QUOTE]
My ZC dyno'd 128 whp with I/H/E. On the same dyno, I know someone who had a A6, 11:1 comp, headwork, etc and did 132 whp (about $3,500 in the motor).
[QUOTE]
Your friend who spent $3500 on the motor got ripped. for that much, I can get you a fully done head(our exospeed stage 2 with cam, gear, valvetrain, THE WORKS)and built bottom end with pistons and rods and a full rebuilt and will do an easy 155HP to the wheels. Theres either some tuning problems on that motor or jus not the right headwork /cam combo.

The motor actually felt strong as hell, but its numbers were 117 ftlb and 132whp. I thought it seemed alright for a SOHC, but when he told me what he spent.. .
Even if he had only spent a grand, he was still only 4hp and about 8 ft lb ahead of me. That's why my vote is still on the ZC.

eek...i think the 11:1 comp should have put him in the 120-130 range with no other mods. Baffles my mind how things like that happen

Re: Friendly D16a6 VS ZC debate (altoid)
+1 for ye ol DOHC ZC.
Maybe I just had a really good one, but even without a rebuild people always commented on how impressed they were with it. As for people commenting about tourqless wonders, The B16 owns that catagory so lets not even start with that one.
Right now Im running a rebuilt D16A6 with a JRSC. Before the charger but with the rebuild, just I/H/E the A6 really just felt like my old DOHC ZC. Now that its running the charger, the A6 would of course stomp on it. I am however planning to rebuild the DOHC ZC and put the charger on it, that should be fun.
I think what it comes down to is people NOT rebuilding the ZC before they install. They expect wonders, and of course are disapointed. These motors were beat to hell before we get our hands on them, dont kid yourself. I would be very interested to see a fully rebuilt DOHC ZC VS a fully rebuilt D16A6. If you are comparing the motors, this is the only way to do it. Without a full rebuild there are just too many factors to comapaire them properly.

LOL at that
I have owned all 3 over the years....
A6- great engines, runs good for what it is, most have high miles these days
sohc zc- same as A6, but different camshaft thats supposed to rate at 118hp, but feels like an A6 to me. Advantage of being a lower mileage engine though
dohc zc- for sure more power, the best out of the three options. A dohc head typically flows 30% more than a sohc, stock for stock. Also, i gained fuel mileage with the swap over sohc engines. With the TQ being high, it was very easy to get up to speed, less work for the motor

Just ordered mine, as he is down to seven left, and as he said, when they are gone they are gone.
I wont even be looking at starting the DOHC ZC rebuild for a few months, but I wanted to make sure I got one of these!
