Default Are ebay short shifters any good?

I just but some shifter bushings from auto zone, and when i install those i want to get a short shifter. i Don't want to get an over price peice of steel from some tuner stores so i was wondering are ebay shifters any good? my friend has a nissan sentra and his broke couple weeks ago so this made me turn the other way. any info would be fine.

I've owned a B&M single bend in my old EJ, now have the dual bend in my CRX. I think they are great, and very sturdy.

I've installed some cheap shifters in other peoples cars, some of which were actually no shorter at all, just chrome . I've seen a few of them actually break.

Evasive motorsports sells a very nice short shifter, which I have also bought.

"You get what you pay for."
^ Great quote.

I tried an Ebay $15 short shifter.
While it didn't break, it came back off the car inside of three days.
I think it was too light...while the throw was shortened, the combination of the lighter weight and short throws required shifts a little too forceful for my taste.

i have an aluminum ebay one that i got from a friend for like 3 bucks. it works as long as you don't use all your muscle to shift. if you're ripping the shifter back as hard as you can, it will break, but if you're shifting it just as fast but not slamming it till it stops, then it'll last forever. do NOT get a plastic one.

I got my B&M dual bend off of glorious ebay for 40 bucks shipped. I also had a straight one, it was excellent as far as shift feel but it was a bit too far forward for me.
(shameless plug: you can have my straight B&M shifter for 30 shipped via paypal)

I bought an ebay shifter for $19 shipped. Had it for 11 months with no trouble. Maybe if I did more 'M4d 5TuNN4 Sty13!' shifts I'd be in the same boat as everyone else. I guess its all in how you shift.

Eh, would a dual bend be better in my EF? I noticed stock shifters for EFs sit up like its a truck shifter or something, haha.

When I got my LS swap, the shifter feels alot better, but Id like to get new bushings, and would consider a short shifter.

is the dual bend gonna move the shifter more towards me so I dont have to stretch as much to shift??

Also, my shifter is a little sloppy, is this normal for EFs or will bushings correct this?

I noticed the sloppiness too. I have the dual bend, and it kinda has a little "sway" to it. It sits fine and feels great just not as tight as my single bend in my EJ was.

My bro got me my short shifter from ebay many moons ago for my birthday. (my 2nd mod ever on my car) I would say... about 3 years ago... Aluminum.. and it hasn't broken.

I guess I'm not shifting hard enough???

Yeah, I don't like the sloppiness of it. I'm guessing its the bushing or the linkage in the older civics, though, not the shifter, am I correct?

I want better shifter feel, anyone have any suggestions? Short shifter or not, anything that will help tighten that feeling up, I don't like feeling like I'm pushing my shifter through jello trying to find my gears, haha. Well its not that bad.

I have a DC short shifter and have energy suspension shift bushings its pritty strong and its not really sloppy there might be like an 8th of play while in a gear, to install it i actually had to file down the outer ring of the metal part that bolts to the car so where the thing hooks up to the linkage would fit through

Here is an example of the play in my car:

My buddy gets in the car, moves the shifter left to right to see if its in neutral. It has enough play in it, that he thinks it is because of how much it moves. Needless to say he started it up and it almost jumped into the garage door..

Bushings are trashed then replace them.
