Default E-Brake Wont Adjust!! Need to pass SAFETY. 90 Dx Rear Discs

So I bought a 90 Civic Dx hatch for a winter beater. It has rear disc brakes swapped in the back. Previous owner has no idea what car they came from (neither do I)

Whne I bought it the ebrake didnt work, you could pull the handle but there was no tension. I was hoping it was simply an adjustment issue but I guess not.

I popped off the cover and started tightening the nut (clockwise) until it got to the end and the spring would allow for no more adjustment (spring was completely scrunched)

Now I could pull the ebrake and there was a lot of resistance, like you actually had to PULL the handle now. But I pulled it out of gear and the car still rolled.

What do I do?

This is one of the last things I need to do in order to pass safety

Checked the ebrake today, never seen a ebrake setup on a disc rear. I can see where it coils around, and when you pull up the e-brake the "boot" slightly moves in the back, not much. There are 2 nut looking type fittings on the end of the boot, I thought those would adjust it but aparently there just part of the boot and arent even attached to the dam thing. So how do I tighten this ****?

you probably need new calipers, the adjusters are probably seized

you don't adjust in the rear..

have someone pull the ebrake cable, see if the cables pull from the calipers..
If not then you ebrake cable are broken.

have someone step on the brake and hold it, without ebrake cables on/lock...
Try to rotate the back tires.. ( back tires off the ground )

Might be dumb but is there a bracket holding both cables right before the ebrake handle? ( It should clamp on to the metal part of the ebrake cable. )

I believe for the parking brake, after you press in the piston,
You have to unscrew the middle part of the piston to take up the gap..

check out the illustration on the lower left hand side..

Do this:
Jack it up,
the rear brakes work when you press the brake pedal?
OK.. Have someone pull the emergency brake..

Then at each rear wheel,
Move the little lever the cable attaches to in the direction the cable
pulls it.. Does it lock the wheel? It should..
If not..take out a caliper bolt, swing the caliper back
and unscrew the middle portain of the piston 90 degrees..
trust me...I do this for a living..

Cables shouldn't matter that much. As long as they retract when you pull the lever they can't be that wrong, unless they are routed in some odd manner.

It's pretty common for the Honda rear calipers to have their parking brake mechanism seize up. You might need new calipers. It will be a pain in the *** because you have to bang out this most likely rusty *** pin from the cable's bracket. Have fun with that.

Using 90-91 CRX Si or 90-93 Integra rear calipers should work fine.

Honda's rear caliper parking brakes were never that great of a design. Drums are a far superior design for parking brakes. It's nearly impossible to lock up the rear with the caliper type but it's cake with the drums.

The calipers were just installed and ewre rebuilt units at the time

I thought they just had to be adjusted at the caliper

All the caliper does is pivot and push them in. There is nothing to adust except that nut behind the parking brake.

On drums you can adjust those, but there is nothing to adjust on the calipers.

So if the nut under the brake is tightenned all the way and they still dont work im basically fucked...

My brakes seem pretty soft if that matters, not close to as good as my stock crx's (drums in the back to) but I have brembo rotors and hawk pads in the front of that car

I dunno
