Default Do you?

Change the oil filter every time you change your oil, cuz I changed my oil 2 months ago, now I have to change it again today ( drive alot) I was wondering if it will be ok if I don't change my oil filter this time and save it for the next oil change. Right now I have Fram oil filter, just in case you are wondering.

What's the point of putting in fresh, clean oil, but not changing out the old, dirty filter? It only takes an additional 5 minutes to change the filter. Don't skimp on your cars essentials.

I change the oil every 2000 miles (I race OFTEN when my car is running), and change the filter every other oil change. My engine is an LS/VTEC that gets revved to 8200 daily. Oil filter always seems to look fine since the break-in.

Changing the filter is just as important as changing the oil.

I change my filter at every oil change. My CRX track car burns enough oil that I have already refilled almost the entire crankcase with fresh oil by the time it is ready to be changed

If I change the oil in 2500 miles I don't always change the filter, but if i drive on the same filter 3500 or more I will change the filter. I know of people that change the filter every other oil change to save money, But these were not performance car, just beaters. I do know some body that put the wrong filter on a car and ceased the motor LOL.

That's good. You're supposed to change the crush washer every time you remove the drain plug.

What about during break-in when you are changing oil every 500 miles?

?

When breaking in a new car, you are supposed to leave the factory break-in oil in the engine for at least 5000 miles . . .

I'm talking about breaking in a new motor....I thought you were supposed to change the motor very often. Atleast thats how it is on bikes.

bikes rev a shitload higher, ( at least double that of a car), so oil is supposed to be changed more frequently. that is why bike miles are like 3x the actual amount. that's why you see guys selling them w/10k on the clock. today the dealership was closed,so i could not get a filter. I don't drive that car hard, so I guess it is cool, but I will be putting a new filter in SOON.

FYI, if you choose to not change your filter as often (bad idea), i'd at least get a purolater. Fram has a cardboard piece on the bottom and can deteriorate over time (letting more sediment in). Purolater filters have a metal bottom.

I'm not talking literally the bottom of the filter, but inside the filter itself.

If you need to change your oil because you have to do some motor work or you have to pull the oil pan for something, the filter is fine. However, if you need to change your oil because of use or time, the filter should be changed as well. I have always had good luck with OEM filters, but that's just me. I change my oil and filter every 4-6 hours.
