I had a 90 hf that had the original d15b6 70hp 40mpg motor. Swapped it for an OBD1 D15b VTEC w/ si trans. New water pump, oil pump, timing belt, DC Headers, AEM Cold Air Intake, Exedy oem clutch w/ stage 3 pressure plate, obd0 to obd1 jumper harness, 2.25 straight pipe with magnaflow exhaust, y8 manifold w/ d15b throttle body and P28 Chipped s100 and dyno tuned. It made 134whp and 106 trq.

I sold the d15b6 longblock, ecu, and trans for $350. And after everything I spent $1,300 - $350 = $950 and I made the same amount of power a stock b16 sir1 motor makes for half the price.

Sold that rex, and now Im trying to do the same thing again!!! Only in a ef can a single came vtec make dohc motors look like jokes.

I had a ls swap with a b16 tranny in my si, pretty quick 15.1 at 90mph and
with a 75 shot 13.9 should be able to do that for under 1500 I did.

Now I have a b18c1 with type r head obd2 with lsd runs 13.8 on motor 13.1
on the bottle, and passes deq.

i just bought an 89 civic dx hatchback 5 speed... and its all stock... im replaceing the head gasket in it and making it run... but i want to save some bread and do a simplistic motor swap... im hearing a B18 will do nicely and is still just as efficeint on gas... the stock d series thats in it gets about 36-40 mph... any ideas????

Haha you beat me to it! Its more expensive to go b rather than swapping sohc motors, but B motors has way more potential. If you get a LS, you can LS VTEC later on... Boost or Juice... I was just saying that I got a low miles JDM motor and did a complete tune up on it then made the same power a B16 makes.. D15b motors are lighter but with less potential.

IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING TO ACCOMPLISH

READ ABOVE! GOOD INFO IS COMING OUT

If you get a b18, in order to make it run, you have to go with a b16 trans because if you get the long gears ls trans then it will be super slow.

Simple swap is just putting a d15b or z6 and converting to obd1

I would say go with the D16z6 you will have much more fun with a single cam. When people ask you what you have in your rex you will still proudly be able to say "just a single cam". The z6 engine is the first vtec single cam manufacture by honda and i would recommend this engine over any dual cam. Just bolt on your stock cable tranny and buy a cheap z6 longblock off of craigslist i see them go as low as 150 for the longblock. Also the b18b motor does not have vtec. I have a gsr motor in my crx and i still miss that little single cam that i use to rev. keep it real and swap a single cam you will still be able to spank a b18 crx's. gl

I've ran ls tranny and b16 tranny it's .5 second faster with b16 tranny,
one thing nice is with a ls swap you can plug it all in with no problem
since it's a si. I even ran the d16 ecu when I first did the swap.

Correct.

What always makes me chuckle is all the sohc guys bash the ls trans (as any one should) and forget even an D series Si has longer gears.

Yes you would.

-obd1 distributor out of del sol vtec or 92-95 civic si.
-Jumper wire harness to go from your obd0 engine harness to match up with obd1 ecu
-p28 ecu out of 92-95 civic si (del sol vtec maybe also)
-I believe your fuel injector resistor box goes bye bye also if im not mistaken.
