Default d16a6 questions

my friend recently bought a 1990 honda civic hatchback and the old d15 was running like ****. so he told his mechanic about it and the guy who sold it to him happens to be a mechanic so the mechanic said he would put a d16a6, now his questions are would he have to use the a6 ecu or is the d15 ecu fine i also noticed that there was a hole in the back of the block which i think would be for the vtec solenoid....oh and hes also using the d15 intake manifold.

if you are using the old dpfi manifold, then you can keep your ecu and dude, vtec has to deal with the head so that hole is not the vtec solenoid, plus a d16a6 is non-vtec

I would recommend converting it to MPFI if you have the whole A6 motor (Intake manifold and all)

It would run better and you would get more power.

To convert it to MPFI keep the DX harness then add the wires mneeded for the A6, add the resistor box and put in a PM6 ECU.

If you're going to run it with the D15B2 intake manifold, I would consider putting in the B2 camshaft to make it run like stock.

It would bolt right up but you do need to do the MPFI swap.

if its a thru hole, its for a carbed fuel pump, normally found on a jdm sohc zc but the head could have been off of one at one point in its life, fab up a plate and block it off.

It's just part of the casting. Nothing to worry about unless you can see right through into the head.

X2. There is a sealed port like that on my A6 head. Nothing to worry about and it is not usable for v-tec.
