Default CRX instrument cluster question.

I have indiglo gauges in my 89 DX, and wanted to go back to stock. So I ordered a 88 Si cluster off Ebay. I tried installing it today, and it doesnt work. Well the fuel gauge and turn lights work, but nothing else.

I assumed all 88-89 clusters are interchangeable, but I noticed the warning lights (brake, check engine, high beam, etc) at the bottom are different between the two.

Do I have to do any wiring? Like I said, I thought they were the same on 88-89 models.

Also, there is a small plastic piece with a comp board and two wires (grounds maybe) that is on the 89 cluster, but not the 88 one. I tried putting it on the 88 cluster, but the lights still dont work.

Please help me, I'm stumped. Thanks

I searched just now and apparently this is a pretty common problem. No answers how to fix it, though.

Bump!!

All the 90-91 Hatch/CRX Clusters are the same and interchangable. However only 88-89 hatch clusters work with hatches, or 88-89 CRX clusters work with CRX's. SO basically if you have an 88-89 Hatch you've got to get a 88-89 hatch cluster, same goes for the 88-89 CRX's.

If you look here you can re-pin the plugs to work with just about anything.

Check out here, help yourself out.

88-89 will fit the same, go ahead and use it, you just need to properly re-pin them. Compare the backs of the clusters, trace the connections, and re pin. as easy as that. Thats what I had to do to install my edm vt cluster. OR, if the tach, and speedo are the only things you want to change, just un screw the individual gauges and swap them.

88 and 89 are the same shape cluster bezel. More squared off and boxy. The 90-91 cars are more rounded. And yes like I said, the 88-89 cars have to be re-pinned/wired to accept a 90-91 cluster. You must also use the cluster mounting brackets and bezel if you want it look look right.

So say you wanted a 91 Si cluster in your 88 car, you'd want to grab the cluster, mounting bracketry(metal), and the plastic cluster shroud. Then re-wire the 88 plugs to 91 spec. Thats for a prim and proper fit, of course you can ghetto rig it if you want.
