CA smog question...will a 90-91 zc pass smog in a 91 civic dx???
ok just a quick question here. i live in california so smog rules hella suck here. anyone who know or done this in california already please help me out. ok i have a 1991 civic dx sedan with the d15 1.5 and want to know if i swap out the longblock to a zc 1.6 will i still pass smog if i just use all my stock components like header, manifolds and stuff like that just basically swaping out the longblock to a zc. it's harder to find a d15 and at attarco they got zc motors all day there.

It can be done. Will it be done? You gotta talk to your local referee to find out. There never seems to be a straight forward consistent answer to what flies and what won't be able to get a BAR label. I can almost guarantee you'll get both YES and NO answers to this...

yeah will main thing is i just want to know if this will pass smog without having to BAR it. just simply by replacing the dx block to the zc block and thats it.

Not entirely sure for your 1.5L - I know it can be done with the A6.
That said, it's basically what one local mechanic has recommended to me - essentially, the block numbers are a little too deep in there for most smog techs to bother checking. It will look pretty stock, excep they're very clean usually.

In reality it will fail the visual. But, most smog techs don't notice there is an engine swap if you keep the dual point setup. IT should pass the tailpipe part if no one notices the engine code

It's a direct replacement. You should be fine. I have to get mine smogged in a couple weeks/a month and I'm in the exact same boat except mine is a std hatch.
It's been done, trust me.
Also it HAS to be the SOHC, not DOHC or SOHC VTEC.

should be fine, most smog techs won't look at engine code, as long as u keep it stock looking and don't make it too obvious..before i use to have a 88 crx dx...and it was swap to a full a6 with harness and everything....never had a problem....but really depends to who you take it to
