Bolt On D Series Mods
Hey guys,
I drive a stock 89 si.. I was looking into getting some proven hp gains. I was looking at a Injen intake, dc header and exhaust upgrade and a ecu program.
I don't know **** about d series. Anybody know any proven gains with minimal mods.
I have an integra with a tsx motor as my race car. I am just looking for simple bolt on stuff..
maybe something like 5-10hp gain overall would be nice..

Re: Bolt On D Series Mods (bossman032)
I've heard the intake only gives a small gain if any. I put the same header on my car with stock exhaust and probably got 7-10 more hp. I don't know exactly, but I definitely noticed a gain the moment I first drove with it on.

Re: Bolt On D Series Mods (bossman032)
If you are looking for just bolt ons for a little gain...
K&N filter on any egay intake arm maybe 2~3
Any aftermarket header will most likely open up your exhaust system in the beginning and will defintely lighten the load, compared to that cast iron crap.
ECu should be fine. I would suggest redoing all of your exhaust except the cat. Custom 2.5 mandrel bent to an aftermarket muffler would probably be best. GL

Re: Bolt On D Series Mods (89efDUSTY)
nice
I had a b16b motor before and have the exhaust in my std hb. Since then I have sold the motor and moved on. Still have the shell and misc parts. So I just need to get it off the std and get it rewelded and put on the si.
I just bought this si about 3 years ago and now trying to mod it a little. My exhaust cracked. I am probably going to get a dc header and injen intake. Currently I have the stock headers and exhaust anybody know if I get the dc header will the stock heatsheild fit on the dc header?
Also any header besides dc headers that will work that will cost less?

Find a y8 intake manifold and convert to MPFI. It is not a simple bolt on, but it is simple enough. You can find many threads on how to do it here. It will also make your life easier to have MPFI already if you decide to ever swap the motor.

haha. I don't wanna spend much money on the daily driver. Maybe good $250 or under. I have a tsx swaped integra that I usually beat on.

Yeah, but there are two problems. Hes just asking about simple bolt on mods. Second, ANY turbo for an ef in CA wouldn't pass smog, they won't even touch it.

I also live in Cali, if you still want to pass smog I would go with a DC header, K&N drop in (oem replacement), and either a nice catback or a nice custom job!

Re: Bolt On D Series Mods (my91tealhb)
today I ran a (fully stock si) NO MODS 16.7 on the gtech.
180lbs woofer/amp setup and 175 lbs passanger and myself 150lbs.
I ran against a b16a2 99si I kept up with it I was suprised. The 99si clutch was out but 4th gear he couldn't pass me.

Re: Bolt On D Series Mods (.Grimace)
Well a 10 hp gain would a 10% increase and that is something. Not neck snapping but a noticable gain.
I,H,E is perfect upgrade for the a6. In my mind.
A CARB legal turbo will pass a smog inspection. That CARB number means it passed the testing that CARB has done. Without any other mod's.
Be careful when you modify the ecu. This will have a big effect on the smog check. Try and save or write down the current settings so you can go back to them when it's smog day.

What the poster above regarding said about no smog legal turbo in CA, it that there are currently no CARB'd legal turbo kits for the D16A6. The legal ones are all d16Z6 and d16Y8. So unless he swapped, he's outta luck there. A6 only has the CARB legal JRSC option.

Dude. That is total BS.
Advancing the timing will help throttle response, but be careful, too much = burned pistons and lean detonation.....

Re: Bolt On D Series Mods (RSZero1)
Yes, you are correct. 92 and newer. I swore there was one for the A6. My bad.
Cross that one off of the Xmas list.
I have tested two a6's with the SC and they both passed.
He He.... retard the timing.

Lol, This made me laugh a bit, considering just about any stock car out their would still smoke the **** out of this speed just driving normally. not exactly a "race car" or even fast but whatever. OP, You could pick up a used Nitrous setup prett cheap and that will give the car the highest benifit with the fewest modifications. I built a ton of D series engines, not much other than FI makes them perform. Pull of the exhaust completely and intake completely, new cam, and that is about all it will ever do. Without FI of some sort D series engines just suck ***. Great little engines tough for the price but not NA.
Good luck!

you cant possibly be so narrow minded about na . all in all its about preference im pretty sure you never went all out with all motor set-up so your wrong about all motor sucking ***. dont get me wrong boost is fun and addicting but until you have gone all the way and i mean all the way with a all motor set-up and you still werent satisfied then yeah i would understand.
bisi should smack you over your face. you little junkyard set-up's would fall against a mild built allmotor set-up.
