Default b18b vs. b18c and ls/vtec questions (already searched)

I'm curious as to what the true advantages of the b18c engine over the b18b is? i know that there is about a 25hp difference between the two and torque is about the same.

Really what its coming down to is that next weekend i'm doing a b18 swap i have everything set and engines lined up however its going to be about $500 extra to swap in the b18c1. Now i could do a lot with the $500 for my car so i'm wondering whether i should just go all out right now and skimp on suspension upgrades and camber kit. Or save the money and go ls/vtec later if i want the extra HP, only downfall to that is that i want to keep my setup as legal as possible.

I need some opinions here really quick...

B18C is a gsr bottom end. it already has oiling capabilities for piston squirters and vtec pressure to the cylinder head. the ls motor does not have piston squirters, although they can be machined in, and has no internal lines for the cylinder head oiling ( to actuate VTEC.) if the gsr bottom end is available to you for $500, pick it up. run some higher compression pistons and you are set. as for the ls vtec method, you will want to run ARP hardware on the con rods, as well as having the rods shot peened or switched to GSR units. (can handle more power untreated.) i suggest you search and learn more before embarking on either of the projects, not to be offensive, but you need more information before making a decision.

My suggestion is to get the B18C engine right now. Though you'll save money in the short run with the B18B, you'll spend more in the long run that way with the LS-VTEC conversion. With LS-VTEC, you get the same amount of power as you would have with the B18C, but reliability is questionable with the LS-VTEC due to the difference in the rod/stroke ratio and the oiling system differences between the two engines.

This is JMHO of course.
