91 Hatch Si Jumping Tach and slight stutter
I could really use some thoughts on what would possibly cause a jumping tach and a slight stutter at cruzing speeds especially around 3500RPM. I think Ive read that this could be a bad ground issue. Is this right? Which ground is typically the problem? Motor to chassis?
Car is bone stock except I/H.
Thanks a ton,

I've had the same issue for a while now. I havent gotten around to checking the ignitor yet but I have noticed a few things.
The colder it is outside the worse the jumping of the tach.
When its really cold the engine bogs with the jumping tach.
Could this still relate to the ignitor?

$80 online.

for $120, you could buy a whole new distributor from distributor king for a bit more.

Yeah, great price. Ill take that to my local dealer to see if they can price match.
They'll probably s*&$t their drawers.

Re: 91 Hatch Si Jumping Tach and slight stutter
Here is an update to my problem. I removed the distrib cap to take a look at the ignitor, which I just ordered. I decided to clean up the cap and contacts inside the cap. When I cleaned the spark plug wire contacts inside the cap, a little white oxide pancake layer came off and the contacts cleaned up nice.
I also simply removed and replugged in the three wires that go to the ignitor. Reassembled and have not had a jump on the tach or engine stutter since.
Now I have a new ignitor in a box. Guess good back up equipment.
Thanks for everyones help.

Re: 91 Hatch Si Jumping Tach and slight stutter
I'm assuming my issue may be different then this then.
I recently replaced the entire distributer assembly, plugs and wires and my idle is better than before, but it's still bouncing between 1200 and 1700 RPM (somewhere in that range) it only bounces around 100-200RPM at any one time, but it's mostly when I'm at idle and often only after I've driven it kinda hard for a bit....anyone have any thoughts?
