stock LS alternator

alright, got everything swapped sunday...battery light came on and stayed on...i thought maybe the battery was overcharging but i took it to my buddies shop and had it checked out...battery put out 14v, which is normal...sometimes the battery light doesnt come on, sometimes it does...monday night i was drivng down my street with the brights on (to make sure not to hit any fallin debris or cats), pulled into my driveway and turned the lights off without disengaging the brights...next morning turned the lights back on, they got really bright and then went out...ive checked the fuses, theyre good...i checked the bulbs, theyre burnt...my battery has a vent hole for overcharging to make sure it doenst become a bomb, so sometimes a little water leaks out of the vent hole...now, if my alternator is charging at the correct voltage, why would my battery light be on and why would my battery be venting? thanks for any help
