Default **SONEM EF Hydro Conversion Reviews & Custom Set-ups **

This Kit looks very well made and Im looking forward to getting my CRX back together and using this, Currently in the process of installing it and just looking for other people using this kit and how they set everything up...
-which types of lines they used (hardline, stainless, rubber!)..
-where they mounted reservoir(in bay, under cowl, maybe elsewhere)...
-saw some masters mounted upside down for clearance
-Welding the washers on the "hook" options
etc...
So any review, how-to, extra info that anyone wants to share would be really helpful to myself and I'm sure many more people interested in this product.

Kit is very well made and can't wait to install it.
clutch master with reserve tank for 19.99 on ebay.
slave cylinder with line, and misc bolts from junkyard for 15.00.

just shop around.

I try to stay all OEM. Using all AN lines.

Ive seen some people mounting the master upside down for clearance.. anyone have more info on that? is it as simple as just mounting it that way? bleeding it the same?

I have a thing with your phrase.. How can you "stay all OEM" if EF's never came with Hydro? The Kit does look awesome! I am very interested. Cables scare me with my Clutch.

stay all OEM when possible.. meaning im not going to buy an Ebay version when I can get the real thing from Honda.

Word! I got you there. Most Ebay is China stuff.... Mostly shiznit.

Not bashing Ebay.

I also want to run Hydro. That kit looks good. I weld so I may take a shot at my own.

Ive run into a problem with this bracket.. have not herd of this complaint yet.

The bracket is stopping me from installing the pedal assembly back into the car. Im going to need to modify either the bracket or the support beam above it. Here is a picture for reference ( not my car )


The circled spot is where its hitting.. the arrow is to the bolt that cant be installed until the bracket is modified.

I would rather hammer down or cut off the piece on the car that is in the way, but that supports the steering shaft, modifying the 150$ bracket seems like a safer idea, but why doesnt it fit in the first place?! Any input or similar stories is appreciated.

im planning on getting one very soon as well, keep us posted on how you ended up modifying it. incase i run into the same issue


but if it were me i would just modify the bracket as long as it wouldnt hurt the structure of it

im more worried modifying the structure mounted to the car b/c if it happens to fail im in a lot more trouble than just ditching the bracket. Its a shame im going to have to grind down a nice amount on the bracket.. I have pictures of the whole install so when complete I will be sure to post it all up.

Instead of using that 90 degree fitting use a banjo fitting end. it will be much lower

or even a 45 degree fitting with a straight line might clear without having to beat in that one section

thanks for linking me to this. this is interesting as this is the first case i've seen this happen. would you mind sending me this bracket back? please note approx. how much material in what area would need to be removed for clearance as well. this way we can check it against our jig and see if something went wrong in fabrication. will definitely get to the bottom of this. we'll send you a brand new one in return.

*note* many users have chosen to mount the master cylinder upside down for more clearance with great success. just make sure you have the fluid reservoir mounted so the lowest point of the reservoir is higher than the master cylinder.

i personally have this setup in my crx. i modified my steering column mount with a 10" cutting pliers. you also need different rear bracket bolts, cable trannies have 17mm while hydro has 19mm. you reuse the DA rear braket and redrill the bracket with a 9/16 drill bit. as for the rear braket bolts, use the upper bolt with one from a 99 si, the lower bolt, use one from a 07 civic si passenger mount(honda part code 2597404, 14mmx47) with a washer from the 99 civic si rear bracker bolt.

also make sure that the clutch master is not binding with the pedal assembly out of the car. my bracket was crooked, i has to drill a hole on the pedal in order for the master to operate smoothly.

i also used a clutch reservoir from a 08 accord, no need for brackets, floats and covers, it comes all together and is cheaper than a regular civic reservoir.

The rod of my master doesnt look 100%level it aims upwards to the clevis pin. dont know if thats normal either?

Okay.. heres some pictures for a better idea, before I go cutting this up or sending it back.

Heres the master bolted up to the bracket, welded washers on, everything went together well..(notice the slight upward angle of the push rod?)


This is the complete assembly going in.. the bracket on the right side(opposite side of master) is hitting the steering column support..


Closer...


Which is making it impossible to get this bolted together and the assembly to sit flush on the firewall..


Any advice or similar problems would be great, not 100% sure if i can just notch the steering column support(or if thats even a good idea) Modifying the bracket seems a better option b/c then with any failure I can just replace the bracket..

Im not worried about the line off the master, with the right fittings or flipping the master that problem can be avoided.

I say make marks on the bracket and hack it up. Sometimes manufacturers are too lazy to redesign a product that works with a little modification. Or maybe they have fixed it and you just happened to get an older version? Either way, I would not hack the car up. It's far easier to replace that conversion that it is any permanant part of the car.
