Default Modifying a 2nd Gen CR-V

Hi all,

New here, not new to Honda. I've got a 2nd gen CR-V I want to do some minor modifications to. It needs to remain my daily driver, which while I work at home, for numerous reasons needs to stay automatic. (mainly; When I drive to remote locations, it is ALWAYS stop and go traffic, and I've got a bad left knee. I can't do a manual in those conditions comfortably.)

With that in mind, I've got some questions and requests for suggestions.

First, I want to add a little more power, and was wondering what my 4speed Tranny can hold, and if it'd be worth upgrading to the 5AT in the 2005+ models (for holding more power, not gearing, this wont be a race car by any means).

Second, I want to lower it about 1.5-2 inches. From my understanding I can do this pretty safely with no real custom fabrication and stuff like that. I'd like suggestions on what brands of shocks/springs, or if coilover systems would be my best bet.

Third, I'm torn between just tossing a supercharger on it with a low boost, or if I should be building all motor. Any suggestions?

And finally, any other things you guys feel I should know, I'd appreciate greatly. I understand parts are few and far between for the 2nd gens, and am more than willing to take the time and look, as well as spend a little extra to get the quality parts designed for the vehicle.

Thanks for your time, and I greatly look forward to all of your responses.

Thanks,
Daniel.

im not really that familiar w/ gen2.. but if you have a standard tranny V, thatll
really give you more options, a supercharger would be nice or if i could say a bit
safer...!?!? get one for RSX... then thees a good write up here to use Kpro on
honda element and make it as your basis....

as for lowering your V, take a look at accord coilover sleeves or civic ES..
then start from there..

Well,
Lowering? There a are a few waysyou can go about it if all you are looking is lowering it 1-2 inches. I belive it is eibach that makes the lowering springs for our 2nd gens, and lower the car 1-2 inches, about.
Coilovers, I have a set of fully adjustable coilovers in my V made by Ksport, I was looking into lowering my car more than just 2 inches, and I like the way they feel, of' course, 250 bucks for springs compared to 850 for coils, that's up to you to decide.
Supercharger? You are gonna need kpro, kpro is for 5/6speed stickshifts only, not automatic, but I know that there is some kind of jumper harness so you can make it work with the stock auto ecu and a kpro ecu, not sure how that works, I'm currently in the process of installing a Rsx-s kpro ecu into my 2nd gen, but mine is a 5speed stick.
Regarding your auto trans, I don't think it would last long with boost, I think you might waste your money, but it will be all up to you.

So, moral of the story; suck it up and manual swap?

Lets say I do that first, obviously I'd have a shop do it since I'm not positive how to go about it, but for the sake of informing myself;

Assuming I don't need it to go AWD, what would be the best Tranny to use, and what all would I really need besides the tranny, a shifter, and new ECU?

5 speed ecu, shifter, the shifter cables, transmission (just stick with the Crv 5speed trans, it's cheaper) no need to get the 4 wheel drive crap, and possibly the interior plastic parts the surround the shifter, and!!!
If you switch to a different ecu, that is in stock form, you will have trouble with the imovolizer key reader, they won't match, so you will need the imovolizer reader that goes with the new ecu, or go kpro, or get an imovolizer by pass set up from hondata (I think) someone makes it, can't remember who..
I'm sure you will still need much more pieces that I can't think of right now..
Oh yea, clutch pedal and clutch fluid reservoir, the line, and new brake pedal or modify your current pedal.. Etc etc.. It's won't be a walk in the park, that's for sure. : /

cheapest...easiest way--> sell/trade your V into a standard tranny!
then start from there, its not worth converting it into 5spd, ive done
some research w/ gen1.. its a big effort, time and $$$ wise!
not unless you have sentimental value w/ your V then do the 5spd conversion..
further more if you have the 5spd, you could modify it into 6spd!! i know
several V owners did it, ill look for the write up....

Wow, that is a lot of trouble. Which means a lot of expense.

I'll just stick with rims/suspension/brakes/intake/header/exhaust for now. Decide what I'm doing down the line; I don't want to get rid of my V (even to swap for another one), its the best car I've ever had.

All else fails I can always get the auto tranny built with a fluid cooler.

At any rate, just to keep the creative ideas flowing, what all CAN I do that doesn't require ECU tuning to get the power out of it?

Intake, header, exhaust.. That's about as much that you can do to that engine to add a little power without any ecu tuning, and even then, if you go with a race header, you will throw check engine light every now and then, even if you use a defouler on the oxygen sensor, that's because the race header deletes the catalytic converter. If you use a "shorty header" you will be ok regarding that check engine light..

Can't even do little things like coil packs, or anything like that?

Hmm, very mild build time, and time to start looking for a 5speed 1st Gen to turbo the living **** out of.

That, or a 5 speed element.

i gotta 02 V...k24a1 ftw its safe to use the skunk 2 ep3 springs($170)...they're not as stiff in the back so your wheel will be in wheel well but it'll level out the car..obx exhaust($20) deffinitly freed up the air flow by alot. i couldnt find a actually CAI so i make one out of some 3" exhaust piping and a spectre airfilter($20)

The '04 to '05 Pilot rims look pretty good on 2nd gen CR-V's with the running boards installed.

it doesn't matter if you're in college or not if you have some funds. mods depends on your choice, engine looks and style. but first, identify what you really want. remain stock and neat is the simple way to keep it pretty.
