Default K24A1 timing chain stretch?

Our 2006 CRV, K24A1 engine (bought 3 month ago) timing chain decided to skip and destroy the engine. I understand what happened, engine is out and I have another engine for it (wreckers). As it is on the skid I am curious how often this problem happens. Now would be the time to put new timing chain in (yes I am putting in new w.pump and thermo) however the price of parts in Canada is crazy. So, I am curious what seasoned prof's say about this problem (chain stretch), moreso how often does this happen? Oil in the newer engine is good, and has 100,000 km (62000miles) on it.
Brother is a ford mechanic, says its all good but still- need some proper insight (never trust a brother ha!)
