Default How to: 97 01 crv 5 speed conversion

This is a simple know how for anyone whos thinking about doing a 5 speed conversion. You are going to need:

5 speed transmission of course
Shiter box and cables
Shiter box mount
Pedals and master cylinder
Clutch lines
Rear engine bracket
Passenger side manual transmission mount, the one that goes on the tranny
Passenger side axle, you can reuse your driver side axle
Manual half shaft
Manual computer
Manual heater duct

Optional parts:
Complete manual dash harness
Cluster Climate control harness
Manual engine harness

It's a really simply swap just like any integra or civic. Just make certain that you get these essential parts...

The shifter box mount...

Default Re: How to: 97 01 crv 5 speed conversion

as long you have this full kit, its a bolt on swap for any average "honda" guy..LOL!

ive been suggesting several times that if one wants to do a manual conversion, he needs the complete
donor vehicle to get the essential parts, unlike teggy/civic conversion that is much easier....
its just that its tough to see a 5speed or even a crv in some local salvage yards, the reason is that
less than 5% of crv that came here in the US is standard transmission, so its a luck to find one!

thanks for the write up!

Yes its much easier if you have a donor crv, which I had in my case. It's an easy swap,I'm just outlining the shifter box situation and the manual vent. Most guys would not thing about needing the shifter holder and the vent....

Pedals bolt right up. Honda did leave the holes for the master cylinder....

You have to get it from a manual crv. I don't think you can order it from Honda. If you don't have one, I don't think it would be difficult to make some sort of mount fr the shifter box..

You should make a different post for this question buddy. I've seen one don't with a b series transmission. You just have to be creative with the shift linkage, this is the main concern....

^^
if you get any tg ranny and use it to make your crv 5spd, you wont have the benefit of the rt4wd...
if all you wants is a 5spd conversion and 2wd, then by all means you can go through that route,
search for monkeymagic's thread, he did nthat and i posted some links for the pic....

**as weve posted here, its essential to have the donor crv to get those "essential parts"
as weve
suggested before, if you donta hve those parts then its not really that practical to convert
your Vs, since youll be cutting corners just to make things work....

Every part can be had. I've seem a couple of 5 speed crvs in the junk yard, so they are not as crazy rare as people make them out to be. Nothing should be complicated that the average Honda man can't figured out. If you want to do the 5 speed, then go for. They have 5 speed crv trannies on eBay all day and you buy pedals and so forth from a junk yard.

Thank you for this link,i just completed mine. But still have a few kinks to work out. One being i stuck with the auto harness and bypassed my safety neutral to my clutch safety switch that was a pita. Next is my reverse lights i have to find which wire is which on the plug(around vss) and tie them into the manual rev switch.

I don't think youd do do a short shifter, it'll be super uncomfortable, if anything I'd do and extended shifter

Bringing this back from the dead. Trying to finish my 5spd conversion right now but can't get the cat started. Anyone have information on how to get the neutral safety switch bypassed?

Is the location of that plug still the same? If I recall the auto crv has the shifter up top next to the wheel. Also is the plug to the shifter the same?

I went around it and just rewired the blk/wht ignition wire. Since I couldn't figure out the interlock issue. Starts normal now. Anyone know where I connect the 2 wires from the reverse plug on the transmission to?

Hi, I'm new to the forum and I'm gattering the required parts to do this swap on a '98 EX, my question is, can I get any Manual Transmission ECU or do I have to make something match?.
Thanks in advance.

You’ll need an OBD2A ECU. Or an Integra ECU, but the fuel trims might be too lean depending on where you live.

Or you can always go the Hondata route, which would require an OBD1 conversion for the harness, but would just need an OBD1 Donor ECU for them to modify, and the bonus would be that you can tune your fuel map for any mods you do.
