Default backup lights wont stay on in reverse of my 98 CR-V 5sp. man.

When I put it in reverse gear the backup lights come on only if i put pressure on the shift ****, pushing it forward almost till it pops out, as soon as I let my hand off the backup lights go out . I have seen where the shift cable connects to the shift lever and when i push back on the shift lever the lights come on. There is a little slack there, can this cable be adjusted and how do I do that. I have searched online and cannot find out how to or if I can adjust the shift cable. Any suggestions or is it something else like the backup switch?

Is there a reverse switch located on the front of the gearbox like all other Bseries? Has a green and a yellow wire going to it, near the Clutch Slave Cyl
