Default 2013 Timing Chain Replacement

I've done a search about when to replace the timing chain on a 13 CR-V and I can't find a definitive answer. I've read where the chain will outlast the car and I've read that the chain should be replaced around 100K miles. My 13 CR-V has 96K on it. When should I replace the chain??

Generally, no the timing chain doesn't need to be replaced unless there was an issue with it.

I should be go to go then. The engine has really been babied. The oil has been changed on a regular basis and 80K of the 96K miles have been on the interstate with the cruise set at 70-75 which equates to right at 2000K rpm. Thanks for the reply.

When timing codes show up then it may need to be changed.

I have an 04 Element with 225,000 plus miles and have never charged the timing chain. Unless you have an issue with it, leave it alone.

You know that your chain is up for replacement when your engine begins to make a loud coffee grinder noise, but even then you have at least a few thousand miles to go before you really have to do it. This type of repair is best to be avoided.

I'm going to adjust the valves over the Winter and take a good look at the chain and guides then.

I have over 260K miles on a K series engine, never had an issue with the timing chain, VTC actuator, etc. Yes, my K series engine burned oil from the start, so I frequently check oil levels and top off. But I feel, oil is relatively inexpensive and it gets me in the habit of doing frequent visual check of things on my car. Some of these engines aren't without their problems. But, some of the K series are pretty good.

The valve adjustment is always a good idea.

260k in an Element, heavy turd of a wind sail that demands everything a K can offer. 310k in a TSX. Another 190k on a Civic and other TSX.

All original timing chains.

These engines are tough if you keep the oil changed.
