ZC/Y8 Mini Me with Boost
I am in the process of buying a ZC/Y8 mini me off of my friend. The short block has 53,000 miles on it while the head has 72,000 miles on it...I would like to have around 200+ wheel hp with boost. The motor is going into a 98 EX' so I need to stay OBD2 for inspections... But I also hear the single cam ZC/Y8 head combo will have higher compression, and also that the block is weak for boost..??...Will this be a good set up for a boost project??? How much boost can I run safely on a good tune???Or am I just wasting money and time??I have been searching and reading for like an hour now lol...But would really like to get some clear responses....Thanks for the time...

id just pick up a complete y8 or z6. I dont think the zc/y8 combo is popular. And finding like a head gasket and studs might be a challenge!!

check out turbod16.com great group of people on there or the FI forum on here.. i would recomend a complete y8 or zc... on a good tune with completly stock internals you can get 230whp.. the tune is where you save your engine

personally I think it's a waste of effort and a waste of money. Too much trouble with trying to get that thing iron'd out.
I'd do what the others are saying. Get a different set up...complete. matched.
I'd also look to get different pistons and try to get the compression as low as possible. 8's would be nice.
200whp is very doable with a stock internal y8. I did close to that all motor...not stock internals obviously....but just saying. stock block though.
I've got a left over one laying around if you need one. not 100% complete but mostly there. think the only thing missing is the trottle body.

Re: (sohc'd upEJ8)
I have 1 more quick question....Will a thicker head gasket and ARP head studs help me keep the compression down enough to where I could boost around 200 whp...And the ARP head studs to hold it together without grenading this motor and without losing reliability....If I do decide to pick the motor up...Thanks

the arp head studs prevent head warpage and lift. The head gasket is thicker to withstand boost.
Im running the arp headstuds and cometic hp(.040) head gasket running 7 psi right now on a mild street tune. Come may im having it tuned at king for 10-11 psi, should be around 230whp. right now id say im around 205-215whp
