To the OP, i don't really know! I had rumors (it's all i've heard) that there is a rare 1.6 vtec zc, something like 135hp ish....but keep in mind being it's a sohc, so not a lot of torque. Not my cup of tea

D16z6 is about 120hp stock.
If its a ZC, its probably got like 130-140hp.
"88-91 Civic, CRX, Si, SOHC ZC/D16A6 1.6 4 $495"
I got this from Nippon Motors. It doesn't tell hp/tq numbers, but that is the year and model it came in. the ZC IS the D16A6.
"92-95 Civic, Del Sol, SOHC, 16 Valves, Non-VTEC ZC/D16A6 1.6 4 $495"
I would say the ZC is NON-Vtec. (D16A6 is non vtec if I am not mistaken.)
Of course, this comes from only 1 website and can only be taken 50/50, which is why I said "if I am not mistaken".
I would just use the D16Z6. I have one and I love it.

yeah man where on earth did you get the 3 valve x2 setup,at first I was like 3 valves in total, damn thats like what benz uses, then you stated 3 valves per side and I was like whatt!
the only 3 in a d series I can come up with that infact is rare is the d16 3 phase vtec unit that came in +96 ek vti's= 130hp same figure as the zc 1.5 d15b vtec just with more displacement and the added 2 valve per cyclinder cycle(what the U.S vx's have) under 2200 rpm= much better low rpm performance and mileage.

Oh i see what you're trying to say. You're getting valves and cam lobes mixed up. BIG difference haha. A VTEC head will have 6 lobes per cylinder (B-series), or 3 lobes per cylinder (D-series).

Re: zc d16 true vtec hp ??
lol so much misinformation.
You're talking about a 3 stage vtec SOHC.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3-stage_VTEC
They are very rare, but they have been imported into the US. Basically, lower rpms run in vtec-e lean burn mode, middle rpms run normally, no vtec, and high rpms run vtec like a normal y8/z6.
They are pretty cool engines, but a pain to tune from what I've heard. I've heard that the AEM EMS works with them.
The way you tell if you have one is to look for 2 vtec solenoids. They will look like what someone previous posted, only you'll have 2 of them. Like this:
