C1 is rated 10 hp more....BUT,
it's called TORQUE my friend....B16 has no more torque than a SOHC VTEC, where a strong GSR will put down 15-20 ft lbs more than a B16

b16 has potential. it is just looking stock v. stock where c1 prevails. it seems like everyone these days has a b16 swap and that is why some people think they suck. but a worked b16 does not suck.

Re: Y do ppl prefer the C1 (z6)
I've owned a B18C1 1992 Si hatch at the same time that my fiancee' had a 1992 Si with a B16A2 swap.
Both cars were fun to drive, and both were quick.
We took them to the dyno and confirmed what I had always thought:
B16A2: 143whp, 102ft-lbs. of torque
B18C1: 150whp, 122ft-lbs. of torque
Both cars had identical mods except the B18C1 had a short ram intake. Both had AEM intake, DC 4-2-1 header, Tanabe Racing Medallion exhaust. The B16A2 also had a rechipped ECU. To be fair a Kenji ECU would have been better, but this was back over 3 years ago so I didn't know him yet.
Side by side the B18C1 hatch would pull hard on the B16A2 from any mph roll, at any rpm, and in any gear. The B18C1 just pulls better. The torque is the biggest difference.
We still have the B16A2 hatch, and the B18C1 was sold for something better (B18C5).
I also have a D16A6 hatch and the B16A2 doesn't pull much better than the 11:1CR D16A6 until the B16A2 gets past 6500rpm. The D16A6 actually has better midrange and it doesn't even have an intake or exhaust.
My bottom line?
Get what you can afford. The B18C1 is clearly better, but it's also usually almost $1,000.00 more expensive. If you are really into the car stuff and you have the extra income I'd say get the B18C1 swap.
But if you just want good bang for the buck and have something quicker than stock the B16A is a great engine. We've had ours for over 3 years now and logged over 80K total and it still pulls like it did the day we got it and it doesn' smoke, use oil, etc.

Re: (chad)
yeah i have to agree the b16a has no tq
when i had my b16a it was fun for a little but the lack of tq in the low rpm killed me
so i boosted it
i think if i had bought the b18c1 or b18c5 i would have been satisfied with just bolt ons
unfortunatly my boosted b16a hatch was stolen
this time i will definatly spend the $$ on a b18c5

I'll admit the B16 isn't a bad motor at all.. A friend of mine has a moderately modded Si and it pulls nicely.. but it is quite amazing how much harder my B18C1 pulls in my coupe over his, especially with less mods. torque is a large factor.. makes me want a cobra

Re: (dunkd)
if you said a b16 sucks your ******* gay, the potential of that motor is amazing. but it is a beautifull motor and if you are a real honda lover you have to love the b16. reving 8grand sounds sweet. ya the gsr is a bit faster, but just talking about the motor its self its great i know a guy with a b16 turbo and he is pushing alot of power. its a good motor and i think it doesnt get the respect it deserves

Re: (ProEater)
I've always felt that GSRs cost too much more money than b16s for the extra 20+ tq that it provides. I've never owned a GSR, but if I had the money I would probably buy a GSR and run it stock while saving for mod money in the future rather than buying a b16 and modding it with the extra $1000 - $1500
nowadays, it seems everyone is yelling "boost!!!!" boost is not for everybody. the engine will require more maintenance, and attention then it would if you added simple bolt-ons. boosting is definitely worth the $$, but it isn't for everybody.
if you're on a budget i would definitely look into an ls and heavily mod it. they can be found for cheap and with the right tlc can be made into beasts

Tom, did you break-in the motor properly???? You just finished building it like 2 weeks ago

Re: Y do ppl prefer the C1 (Jswpstdoff)
b16 swap is cheap and very easy to locate.
b1bc1's, although has more torque, the sometimes extra $1000 isnt worth it to some people.
I would think that the b18c1 is a better motor, but the b16 does have its heroes as well...
