WTF is this piece in my trunk?
The black piece in the middle of the photograph that looks like a vent- what is it? Water is entering my trunk through it and around it, so I was wondering how to fix it.

it allows air to circulate through the car...as for your water problem...never had it happen to me....is the rubber flap torn or distorted at all? if it is, Id replace it and it will probably fix your problem.

The rubber flap is not torn or distorted; the water is mostly coming from around the pieace. I think I am going to spread silicone around the edges of the piece and see if it stops the leak.

i didn't know what it is either so i removed it
didn't seem to cause any problems. i have a leaking tail light gasket but instead of replacing it i just drilled a couple holes in the floor

theres a little sponge gasket all around that vent....it may be coming from there....silicone may solve you problem, or worst case scenario, you can get a new one from your honda dealer.

That part is for releasing pressure when you close the doors in the car.

It's the vent for your HVAC. On the freeway, close all windows and moonroofs and turn the fan off. If your HVAC is set for fresh air, you'll still feel a faint breeze from your interior vents. That's because the air is exiting out those vents in your trunk.
Otherwise, fresh air won't be coming in if there's no way for the interior air to exit the car (assuming all windows/moonroof is closed).
Also, water is most likely getting through that vent because it's leaking somewhere else (base of the rear window or around the trunk seal).

^^^^Its ment for all of those. I wouldn't suggest closing it off. I just replaced mine on my hatch. It never leaked, but I replaced it when I was in there.

D) all of the above
Clean up the area and silicone it. At least I would, I love the light breeze I get when the fan's off and set to fresh air.

Yeah, it's a coupe. I'm just going to clean around it and silicone it....if that doesn't work, it's just going to keep leaking.
