Would I be able to replace the head gasket on my 95 Civic?
I have a 95 honda civic i bought not to long ago with the idea of swapping out the engine. I then lost my job to long after. Well i just blew my head casket and cars is now parked. My question is my mechanic want to charge me 600 to fix the gasket, but was wondering if its an easy fix that i could do it cheaper. If its not i will be swapping the engine so i need advice on what engine i could swap for cheap that would be worth it. i can spend around a 1000 on an engine. thanks guys.

head gasket for a d series is $30 get a new intake mani gasket. oil. coolant and it takes about 2hrs.
unbolt the intake mani and slide it back
unbolt the exhaust mani and slide it forward
loosen the tensioner
slide off the belt
drain coolant
take off the valve cover
unbolt the head studs.
lift off the head
replace gasket.

when you take the head off, check the surfaces to see if its not warped or still in specs. If so, slap on that gasket and be with it.

Buy a helms manual, and follow it step by step. Take your time, and i dont see why you couldnt. I replaced a few before, and as long as you take your time, its not real hard.

Its easy for alot of us but for a complete noob it can be tough. If you know someone that you can ask questions to in person and can tell you what your doing wrong in person, then yea. If not, honda-tech is good but can only take you so far. The Haynes manual is not a bad investment.

sure you *can
you need a decent tool set and some sort of manual to follow. Are you mechanically inclined? Every response above here has valuable info
