Re: would a honda civic si beat a mustang?
if you get a good launch, you should be able to get him out the hole, but i think he's gonna have too much torque for you to stay ahead past the 1/8

Re: would a honda civic si beat a mustang?
The '99 Civic Si does the 0-60 in about 7.5 seconds and the quarter mile in about 15.7 seconds.
In comparision, the '87-'93 5.0 LX and GT Mustangs do the 0-60 in anywhere from about 8.0 seconds to 6.2 seconds (the '93 Cobra does it in 5.9 seconds).
The '87-'93 5.0 LX and GT Mustangs do the quarter mile in anywhere from about 16.1 seconds to 14.4 seconds.
The Mustangs will have torque on their side. They will almost definitely get you off the line.

1999 Honda Civic Si
0-60 mph: 7.5 sec
1/4 mile: 15.7 sec
Ford Mustang LX 5.0
1990
0-60 mph: 6.2 sec
1/4 mile: 14.8 sec
1992
0-60 mph: 6.4 sec
1/4 mile: 14.9 sec
Ford Mustang GT
1987
0-60 mph: 6.4 sec
1/4 mile: 14.4 sec
1988
0-60 mph: 6.4 sec
1/4 mile: 15.0 sec
1989 with manual transmission
0-60 mph: 6.2 sec
1/4 mile: 14.8 sec
1991
0-60 mph: 7.3 sec
1/4 mile: 15.6 sec
1993 with automatic transmission
0-60 mph: 8.0 sec
1/4 mile: 16.1 sec
Ford Mustang Cobra
1993
0-60 mph: 5.9 sec
1/4 mile: 14.5 sec
'87-'93 Mustangs curb weight is between 2,743 and 3,350 pounds. The Civic Si's weight is between 2,601 and 2,612 pounds. So the Mustang weighs at least 131 pounds more.
So it looks like it's going to be close for some of them, but all the numbers I have show the Mustang beating the Civic unless the Mustang has an automatic transmission. I honestly doubt I'd see too many stock Si coupes beating stock Mustangs with the five liters. Even with mods on both cars, the Mustang makes power a lot easier and cheaper.

I can't really believe this thread exists. A 5.0 will certainly punish you. That's the whole point of them. They are fast off the line. They jump to life.

lmfao.. 'stangs all day! pretty sure his 88 would beat your 99, and even if it didn't, which it should, you've got 11 years of technology and "newness"

i beat one in my d16z6 hatch at an 1/8 track.
but it woulda stomped me in the 1/4 as it was catching up pretty quick
the driver spun the tires at the line and i didnt thats why i beat it.
em1 should be a bit faster so you might stand a chance. it all comes up to the driver
