Default Won't Rev overe 4K!!

Just had the timing belt and head gasket replaced. Ther car starts and idles just fine, even drives like a dream. Problem is it won't rev over 4K rpm. It seems like it has kicked itself into a safe mode. I am not sure what to check or if I am overlooking something. Anyone have any suggestions? Mods are I/H/E.

sorry, I forgot to mention that the ECU had thrown a misfire code prior to the head gasket and timing belt replacement!

have you reset the ecu since the work was done?

We cleared the ECU with a code reader but wasn't sure if I should disconnect the battery to reset it as well! It just seems odd that it runs fine other than it won't go over 4k rpm.

for the sake of knowing I would remove the battery and reset the ecu that way. then check the codes again.

Ok we tried that and it isn't throwing any codes. We tried to drive it and it feels like it doesn't have any power to move?? I can't figure this out and it's driving me nuts!

I read on another forum last week that the ICM has two stages. They were complainig about not being able to exceed 3500 RPM. They replaced their Ignition Module and cured their problem.

would that cause the bogging down when I try to drive it?

yeah compression was fine in all four cylinders. so either timing or the ignition module may be possibilities?

Welll the cam timing seems to be OK and we tried swapping the ignition module and still nothing. Anyone have any other ideas to try or where to start?

Does it rev up nice and hit a wall at 4K or does it go sometimes above or below. Cam timing should still rev above especially in neutral. Check the sensor connections, I had a connector fall of the coolant temp sensor of my 90 Integra and caused it to run rich and rev limited it to 3500.

It ended up being a clogged catalytic converter?! I guess it wasn't building any back pressure and causing it to throw a misfire code. Thanks for thehelp guys!
