Wiring question regarding switch on steering column(running high/low beams same time)
I want to wire my low beams to stay on when I put on the high beams. My car is a 96 civic LX. I currently am running TYC headlamps with HIDs in the low beams and standard halogen bulbs in the high beams. The reason I want to do this is because HID bulbs and ballasts do not respond well to being turned on and off repeatedly. This would minimize that. My question is regarding the 7 pin connector that is connected to the combination switch on the steering column. If I were to run a jumper wire between B3 and B4 in the diagram. Would I be able to achieve this? Another question.. Does B4 even exist on the American version of my car? If this would work, this would be a great mod for anybody that has separate high and low beam bulbs (being that dual filament bulbs will overheat with this mod). Let me know what you think.
Thanks.

They are separate bulbs. H1 HID low beams and H1 halogen high beams.

youll have to do some wireing but the correct way to do it would be getting a bosh style 5 pin relay
hook 85 up to a ground and 86 to a power then hook 30 to your ground wire on the light and 87 up to the power on the light and i believe 87a to ground but ill have to check on it

ok this is how it goes
30 to battery +
86 to ground
85 to high beam power
and 87 to low beam
87a just leave open
that should make it so your low beams stay on while your brights are on

I guess what I am trying to do is figure out a way to do it without a relay. The first way that you told me would make the low beams stay on all the time wouldn't it? Maybe I'm getting myself confused. Have you actually done this to your car yourself?

Where in the circuit would be the best place to wire this in? Right at the headlights?

Thanks for your help, I will definitely look into one of these relays. One last question.. Do you think rewiring the combination headlight switch on the steering column would work? Seems like less work to get the same results.. Just a thought.

dont do that.. the switch is way to complicated to get into and youll have to be very carefull.. doing the relay method is alot easier and safer
