Wires cought on fire - need to know where it goes
i have a 98 civic lx, in the morning i started the car, smoke came up from the engine bay and my cel turned on. i turned off the car and opened the hood, in the main connector on the top left towards the firewall (driver side), the black/yellow small wire was burned. can someone please tell me what that wire is for and where it goes. i looked at it and it goes from inside the car through the firewall and down under the intake manifold. please help, thank you.

i cut the wire because it was already burnt and i didnt want it to keep burning the other wires. anyways, thats right next to the brake master cyl. let me know what it is, i'll probably end up splicing where the wire starts and ends and putting a whole new wire.

i think it was the o2 sensor... also forgot to mention, when i first started the car and it smoked up, i gassed the car a lil and the speedometer jumped up and down....

check a helms manual, or something and find out what that wire runs to, i can prolly check tomorrow at work in my work system if no one chimes in.
worst case, cut everything apart and follow it.

I have this same exact problem right now...its a bitch...check fuse 15 under the dash...it should be a 7.5A. Your fuse holder is probably melted (mine was) the fuse practically fell out. I cut the wire and ran a new one and i also put in a new fuse box. The problem is still there. It is in the same circuit as the o2, alternator, and vss. I have already replaced the vss. I think it may be the alternator producing too many amps but im not sure. Shoot me a PM.

ok, fixed the problem. It was a faulty #15 fuse, replaced the fuse, took apart the main harness and pulled out the burnt wire, replaced the wire. car runs fine now...cel still on...
the bad news, somehow through taking apart the main wire harness, i fuked up the obd2. now i cant clear the code... hella gay, so yeah, got work tomorrow so i'll try the obd2 again at work with a better scantool, hopefully my scantool is garbage.
yeah, so now thinking about what happened, i think the alternator is bad, pulling out too much power when it wants and burning the fuse/wire. tired of this piece of **** car so now selling it. lol.

i forgot to mention, when my car first smoked up i turned off the ignition... was like wtf and looked under the hood, didnt see where the smoke was comming from.... so turned KEY ON, didnt see anything happening... then IGNITION ON, wires smoked up again.... so yeah, thats why i think its the alternator thats gone bad. nothing happened until i started the car.
i'l check the wires for o2 sensors tomorrow morning.
