Default wiper help

1998 civic DX hatchback

when i bought this car, there was a problem with the wiper control.
*excuse my terminology*
if the wiper arm is in the up position, the wipers are off.
It if goes to the down position, the wipers go on full blast.
The problem is that whatever it is the keeps it up must be broken.
If i barely touch it. it will go down and the wipers will do their thing.
If i hit a bump too hard, it will do the same. It is sort of embarrassing to have them go off for seemingly no reason at all.
My question is: is there some way to deactivate this function via wiring or what not.

Mine did that so I changed the switch, then I broke the effin thing again! I don't think there is any way to fix it without changinf the switch, it looks like theres a little piece of plastic in there that wears out.

you can make a 'wedge' from a piece of cork to keep it up, thats what I did; those switches arent cheap.
