Will OEM EG headlight housings obstruct HIDs?
I have HID's in my 95 Civic Hatchback VX. My car came with Spec D headlight housings. I need to replace the housing because they are broken and I'm considering going back to an OEM housing. Does anyone know if an OEM housing would result in poorer light reflection on the road with an HID kit? The OEM housing design isn't as clear as the Spec D.
#2 Pic is Spec D (aftermarket)

I understand there is a difference in performance. In my experience with halogen headlights, I've been comfortable using them in conjunction with HID's. I'm just wondering if OEM headlights for my Civic would be worse than what I currently have.
Would you have an idea if I would be sacrificing performance if I went back to an OEM housing from the clear housing that I have?

Take a look at the oem glass housing and compare them to those aftermarket headlights and you'll know what it will do. You might as well go LED since the output, when using HID, is nothing near an actual HID retrofit.

I actually don't know what it will do. I had my guesses, but I wasn't really sure. That's why I proposed the question to the forums. I've never done this before.

The flutes in the OEM glass are designed to spread the beam a certain way. Now look at any HID headlight housing and see if any of them have the flutes.

So, I take it that it might make the beam scatter more than the reflective halogen housing? I think I'll keep my reflector housing instead of going to OEM.
Thank you for the clarification.

Yea, I'm sure you've seen people driving with the "bolt in" HID kits. It looks nice and bright from the outside but ever see what it looks like from the driver's seat? It's not what you'd think and it's because of the way the beam gets scattered from the flutes. It's also the reason why that **** is so blinding when they're behind you.

I replaced my broken housings with the same manufacture that's aftermarket. They work really well and surprisingly don't cause a scatter that would blind someone. Very happy because these were cheap and I didn't need to go back to OEM housings.
Thanks all!

I know the OP has figured out the issue, but for future readers of this topic here is a case study:
OEM JDM headlights with TYC projector retrofitted with H1 bulbs:
OEM JDM Stanley with TYC projecter and futed lens versus Spec'd glass clear lens headlight with morimoto mini h1 7.0 projectors:
The results speak for themselves:
That was right after the swap. I lowered the cutoff just a little after adjusting per morimoto instructions, but i think you get the point. The original HID were adjusted as well so this is a pretty good before/after.

im running a eg6 headlight retrofitted with a projector and i have a cut off line with the fluted lens. It also depends on the hid kit you run. Im not a fan of clear lenses

The HID kit you use has absolutely nothing to do with the cutoff. It's all in the projector. You can still have a decent cutoff with fluted lenses, but's it's not going to be as sharp as it would with clear lenses.

Ok let me Rephrase what i was saying since it all clashed.. the cutline is going to be there fluted or not. i have a crisp line. What i was saying about the Hids depending on quality the output is going to be **** with a cheap hid. therefor the cutoff is going to be horrible..

Cut off depended on the projector.
OP never said he was going to do a retrofit, which has been called that for the last 4 -5 yrs.
The cutoff will be there but the fluted lens will distort it.
