will an ecu from a 5sp ex run an auto ex?

No. The transmission is controlled by the ECU.

i know that an auto ecu will run on a manual.
My friend had a 89 crx with a b16. the swap was done by a shop taht gave him an auto ecu instead of a manual. it worked but he redlined at 6500 or 6800.
Vtec kicked in at 3500, i think, but to tell you one thing, he was spanking people left to right.
