Re: will 2001gsr brakes fit on 96 civic (kommon_sense)
OK,
I've installed only the back brakes(with the gsr e-brake line) today to try it out.
With the rear end jacked up, I spin the wheel. The brakes are rubbing against the the disc with a low "siiggggsh" sound and makes about 2-3 rotations.
Questions:
1) Is it normal for the brakes to be rubbing against the disc or spin freely?
2) If it's not normal, could it be due to the fact that i am using the gsr e-brake line? It was too short but i've lossen the line up until the black insulation of the wire, insde the e-brake line, was only showing a 1/2 inch . This was done to the line attached to the back of the e-brake handle.
3) Or the fact that I haven't changed the M/C and the booster to match the brakes?
Any inputs will be apreciated

no, not at all. they won't push enough fluid to the calipers and you *may* actually end up with brakes that are worse than what you have now.
I had 5 lug and used my stock MC/booster and it was fine. It had the same pedal pressure as a stock civic, but the brakes were sooo much better.
You don't need to upgrade, but it's always recommended.

what car did the brakes go onto? What size was your stock mc ? there is a reason that they don't use the mc from the dx/cx/vx on the ex/si.

And I understand there is a reason why they don't use the smaller m/c. I never said that it was in any way superior to that of an ITR or other Integra with a 15/16.
But it did serve well enough for me to say that you don't have to rush and get a new MC/Booster. It will work fine for the time being.

Thanks for the reply fowler
I'll try that
So, are you still using your stock m/c and booster?
btw the brakes do work alot better already, I will get around to change out the fronts sometime next week.

Actually, I sold that car before I had a chance to switch that stuff out.
My friend upgraded his car to a 15/16 Mc/booster and it made a world of difference. Brakes are alot firmer. Good stuff

I have all that stuff from a totaled gsr.......Does everything bolt right up?
Or is there something I should know before trying to swap it out.
Also, is there anything else I need to change out besides the m/c and booster.

almost everything bolts right up. my understanding is that you need to bend an re-flare the brake lines to accomodate the gsr mc/booster. However other than that, it is all a bolt-on affair.
