What kind of car do you own? A little more information and possibly it could be explained why your vehicle doesn't have the rubber foot area on the driver's side.

driver seat is used most, that should be obvious, thus they put a little bit more protection on that carpet.
What car is it from? My 92 cx has it.

i have a 96 civic dx hb, and it doesnt have that black thing, im not wondering why its there, im wondering why dont my carpet have it. also that is not my picture, i found it on the classified forums

Mine came loose and I had to rip it off. Now I two aeras that have worn thin and turned into holes. 
I'd recommend putting down a floor mat if you don't already have one.

i thought the 96 model would have it.
i just checked the part #s and the 96 is a different number than the 97+ 3dr dx.
maybe they left it off on your model.

they're shy a few things compared to the ex models which that picture came from

(btw, the other reason the 96 and 97+ have diff part #s...is because th e96 model doesn't have the side reinforcement beams that the other models have...under the seat. this would make the carpet sit lower on the 96 model.)
