Why is my front sway bar "squeaking" ??
I recently installed the ST sway bar kit for my 98 DX and the front left side is "squeaking"....it is actually the endlinks making noise, but just the one on the left(drivers) side. My bf and I tried to tighten them up, but it stills squeaks.
It usually makes the noise when the shocks are working...meaning when the wheels are moving up and down, not just when driving or turning.
I am wondering if I need to torque the "d" shaped brakets down more....the ST instructions only said 18 ft lbs, but someone else told me 45 ft lbs. Thats a big difference....except only the one side is squeaking.
anyone please help...or give your imput! Thanks a bunch

Hmm....that is kind of odd for just one side to squeak when they are both tightened the same amount. Anyway, are both sides tightened so that the bushings have started to *bulge* a little bit?

yes...they are. and I tried to tighten them more....should I tighten the side that is squeaking a lil bit more.
I just don't want to over tighten....why can't they give a damn torque spec??

If it is the bushing that is squeeking, loosen it up, and put some vasaline on the inside of the bushing, then put it back together.
If it is the end link that is sqeeking...then, hell, you got me.

my sway bar squeak like crazy after i had re-installed it - found another thread that suggested some CG MOLY grease - don't know what the hell that means, but they sell it at auto zone for lke $3 for a crisco sized jar of it, it stinks like ***, and works incredibly well. i took my d-brackets off completely, lubed the crap out of the bushing, inside, outside, the bar itself, etc, and no more squeaks.
like that other dude, said, make sure car is level. i used the stock jack underneath my rear tow hook and jacked it as far as it would go - tires were still on the ground, but i had more than enough room to work. just don't knock the jack over.

thanks guys!
I lubed all my D bushings with the lube that came with the kit....very sticky .... but didn't say to lube the end link bushings, I even questioned myself about that b/c it seemed that all the bushings should have lube.
So I guess I have to take that poo poo apart now....practically the whole thing too b/c you can't tighten the endlink bolt with the adapter bracket bolt in place
well...anything to stop that squeak.
So should I lube them all.....only one set is making a noise.?? it would probably be a good idea.
thanks again
LMFAO.....he's not FAT!

Is that an 8-step adjustable KYB AGX in that picture? On a Civic/Integra? Thought they were only 4-step, and adjusted on the top of the shaft?
