it doesn't have to do with your engine, your ecu is what controls the rev limit.
just because your engine goes that high, doesn't mean your engine is going to handle it.
take it easy on the engine alright?

Could be a chipped ecu, but your y7 doesn't need to rev that high unless its built and tuned.

i knew the ECU controls the RPM's but i thought d16y7's r supposed to redline at 6,800. so i was asking if somebody knew something about this

The ECU controls everything about the motor. Everything, including the redline. It may be a faulty ECU, or a notoriously inaccurate factory tach.
Either way, I wouldn't go beating on it until I found out for sure.

It might be your tach. I have a ls swap in my 2000 ej8 and the rev limit is supposed to be right at 7200, well on a few occasions, i took it past, So i took aprt the ECU(square ecu???) and found no chipping. So using my fancy shmancy OBD2 maching i matched my RPM signal that i was showed to my tach, and now everything works in perfect harmony.

I think the OP is confused between the two terms redline and revlimit or maybe I just didn't read it correctly. The redline is 6800rpm which is correct. The revlimit SHOULD be 7200rpm. Usually with any car you can go past the redline but it's not going to be making anymore power unless there is more work done to the motor.

could just be a tach that's off by a bit. Stock rev limit should be around 7k-7200ish.

My d16y8 spun a rod bearing too lol. It was definitely from reving high and the fact that I had low oil. I could feel it gradually getting slower and finally the knocking started. I still drove it for a month with the rod knock just didn't rev it too much. I had my b18b on order so I didn't care too much.

that sounds like a very very low gear. Lower than the B16A. The stock B16A is at around 4500ish at 80.
The Y7 trans puts you at around 3k @ 100mph.
OP you should have no problems revving the engine to stock fuel cut all the time.

im sure its a y7 ECU and i have a factory LX cluster so i doubt its off. and it still makes power until 7500.

They're all off - usually not that bad though.
@ OP:
What kind of rims/tires are you using?
Your gear ratios / speeds are horribly off. Should be at 70mph @ 6700-6800 RPM in a D16Y7 transmission, so this means one of two things:
A) You changed the tire size and it threw off your speedometer reading (likely)
B) Your tach is simply 1000 RPM off. (verrry likely)
C) Somebody changed out the gear ratios in your D16Y7 transmission and put custom ones in there (VERY unlikely)
Just for ***** and giggles, what's your tire size?

the stock rev limit is at 7200 rpms. i bounced off mine one time in my dx and it read around 7700 rpms.
its just tach inaccuracies
