why do i have an erratic idle?
Quite recently, there was a street flood at my school while i was taking an exam. My 98 hatch was flooded an now has an erratic idle. Before the flood, my hatch had an erratic idle only when i turned on the air conditioner. Now, it has the issue all the time. The idle is much higher now; it continuously climbs up from 2000 to 2500 rpm and then goes back down. Does anyone know what the problem might be? You might also want to know that the level of water was up to my seats. The hatch did start a few days later.

From what i understand it can be these problems..
-IACV
-FITV
-Air in coolant lines
-Vacuum Leak
Try out those cheap easy fixes first before you get into anything more expensive.

we cleaned the iacv because someone told us that it might be that. still did it. i also heard that the valves could need a adjustment?

Eh, I've heard the valve noises today matt..but i really dont think its causing my idle. By the way tomorrow night me and matt are busting our asses all night, even if it takes until dawn to get my idle calmed down.

I put my money on vac leak, use wd-40 or propane around all lines, gaskets and vacuums, if it revs, there's your leak, if not, check everything that everyone else listed, common solutions right there.
